Thriller Restaurant - Episode Two

This episode of Thriller Restaurant has a new host, as The Cat Demon will present the menu of this week. The appetizer to start off this week is “The Cat Goes to School”, which was made from a vicious beast, to give the dish a peculiar wild flavor. The main course/dish is “The Path to the Bottomless Pond”, which will be drowned in cold soup before it being served. And the dessert for this week is “Become a Flounder” which will make you want to take up cooking yourself.

I thought that this week’s stories were interesting, as I especially liked the appetizer of the three dishes.

Yakushiji Ryoko No Kaiki Jikenbo - Episode One

Being a fan of 13 episode series, I thought that I wound blog this series simply because I haven’t seen a episode by episode or play by play review of this series. The main male lead of this series is a 33 year old man named Izumida Jun’ichirou. Izumida occupation is being employed as a local government employee. To be correct, Izumida is a Lt in the Metropolitan Police Department, and works under a counselor in the criminal investigation division.

Izumida’s boss is Counselor Yakushiji Ryoko , who is a career-minded bureaucrat who graduated from Tokyo University. It’s Izumida’s job to baby-sit Yakushiji Ryoko who aside from her personality, Yakusjijo Ryoko is flawless. Like most anime series, Yakushiji Ryoko has a rival, and Yakushiji Ryoko rival/enemy is Counselor Muromachi Yukiko. The rival between Counselor Muromachi Yukiko and Yakushiji Ryoko began at Tokyo University, during their days as law students. Counselor Muromachi Yukiko babysitter is named Kishimoto.

This episode of Yakushiji Ryoko No Kaiki Jikenbo deals with Yakushiji Ryoko and
Izumida’s case is going to a party hosted by the QTR to try and solve a police investigation involving the QTR.

Overall, I found this episode interesting as there are no child leads in this series which is refreshing, as the humor and play on words is more mature, and not childish. I found Yakushiji Ryoko to be an interesting character that is seductive, intelligent yet also is quite playful personality.

Kaleido Star : Legend of Phoenix

If you haven’t gussed, I’m a big Kaleido Star fan and I’m an even Layla fan, and even though ADV or no other anime distribution company has yet released this wonderful OVA on DVD or Blu-Ray yet this OVA answers all the questions that a viewer has about Layla, while also providing good character development to Layla and Sora and their relationship that they have with one another.

From an animation point of view the animation is that above a TV series, and below that of a movie, and that standard of an OVA series. The music of this OVA was fitting and some of it is recycled music from the TV series, but the new insert songs in this OVA simply added emotion to the characters of the OVA, while still maintaining the charm what makes one enjoy Kaleido Star. As this is a GONZO production I’m surprised how far studio GONZO has fallen in recent times, when studio GONZO was once looked at animation studio and viewed by the anime industry as a studio doing interesting works while being a pioneer of sorts of doing series with interesting story lines without to much fan-service in their series.

If you a fan of Kaleido Star/Stage or not, I would recommend you take the time to visit Kaleido Stage/Star as it’s like visiting old friends.

Kiddy -And - Episode Five

As the previous episode of Kiddy –And had Dia introduced, this episode features the trio of Dia, Ascoueur and Q-feuille being asked by Director Hiver to investigate some weird happening in the old GOTT building.

After the trio of Ascoueur, Q-feuille and Dia arrive at the old GOTT building Dia immediately runs off by herself with Ascouer using her teleportation powers to try and find Dia, with Q-feuille scared on her own. As I’m a Q-feuille fan, I was happy to see many different facial expressions of Q-feuille in this episode. The thing/object that ends up being Dia’s pet/mascot of this series is a genetic beast that is made up of nano machines. I thought it was cool seeing Dia power up the genetic beast and Ascoueur and Q-feuille in this episode, though the viewer doesn’t get to see much of Q-feuille’s power up in this episode.

Overall, I thought that this episode brought forward some plot elements that will be important for later on in this series, when the episodes actually are more serious, while also connecting this series to the previous Kiddy Grade series.

The Black Contractor PV

As I’ a fan of Darker Then Black, I thought that the promo of he Darker Then Black OVA entitled The Black Contractor looked rather gritty, and looks rather interesting in my opinion (IMO). Below are screencaps of The Black Contractor preview.

Darker Then Black: Gemini of the Meteor - Episode Six

This episode of Darker Then Black: Gemini of the Meteor, starts off with the submarine arriving in the harbor, while Hei attacks a decoy which carries Shizume Genma, while Misaki and Norio’s mother are the real convoy. I thought that fight between Hei and armored Genma was interesting, as this episode showcases Hei experience as a contractor. At the harbor, I Suou and July end up escaping just from Hazuki Mina.

I thought it was interesting that Mao brought up the subject of Yin, as Yin plays an interesting role in this episode, when Norio attacks Suou in this episode. I thought that scene of Hei ringing up his employer Madame Oreille, was to provide some fan-service in this episode. I thought it was interesting in this episode that Hei’s and Suou’s relationship has developed interestingly, as Hei is starting to eat more in this series, and after telling Suou not to shoot anymore because she isn’t suited to it. I thought that Suou’s verbal comeback of a possible deal if Hei doesn’t drink anymore was interesting as it could provide an interesting possible conclusion to this series as the deal involved Suou not to shoot anymore. I thought that last scene of this series was interesting with Suou seeing Yin’s observer spirit, though Hei/Li not seeming to notice Yin’s observer spirit.

Overall, I thought that this episode was actually quite interesting, though I thought that Norio’s death wasn’t as emotional as I would have liked, though it did some emotional impact after Norio’s father comfort’s his son.

Anime & Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood 12 Nov 2009 08:54 pm

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Episode Thirty One

I thought that this episode of Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood was rather bland in that this episode was again a stereotypical plot building episode with Roy Mustang enlisting the help of Madam Christmas to help do his dirty work. I though that Kimble was released in this episode was rather cool, as I thought that Kimble looked like the person/hitman that Elliot Ness through off the roof in the movie the Untouchables.

I thought the little joke that Kimble played on the security guard was interesting, as Kimble kind of reminds me of the character Greed, in that they are characters I like from the series. I thought it was interesting that Scar made Dr. Marcoh’s face unrecognizable to other people in this episode.

Overall, I thought that this episode of Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is slowly building up steam for the next major plot development in the series, and look forward to see how it will play out.
