Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Episode Twenty

As Holhenhiem was a character in the previous FMA series that I thought was very interesting, I thought that this incarnation of Holhenhiem was interesting, in that the viewer got to see some interesting sides to Holhenhiem, like what he was like in his early days with Pinako, while also coming across as creep and cold to Edward. I thought that the revelation in this episode about Edward and Al transmuting not their mother, but something else when they where young, was a very interesting and dark twist to Ed’s and Al’s past.

As it has been some time since Al and Ed have been seen together for some episodes, I thought that seeing the Elric brothers together in this episode was a welcome sight, as having the two brothers together is better IMO (in my opinion) then having them split up. As the previous episode of FMA hinted at talk about which Elric would marry Wirny when they were younger, I thought it was really great that this episode went into detail that Wirny actually turned Al down, due to Wirny not wanting to marry a person shorter then her. Despite Wirny being taller then both Ed and Al, I wonder if Ed confessed to Wirny, would she reject Ed or not?

As Izumi has been a character that I have liked in this series, I thought that despite her short appearance in this episode, more Izumi is required! As Holhenhiem departed in this episode, I thought that the cute photos of Rockwell and Elric family on the wall in Pinako’s house were really cute, and wouldn’t mind seeing an episode dedicated to Al and Al becoming friends with Winry, instead of just it being assumed.

Overall, I thought that this episode of FMA: Brotherhood was quite good due to Ed’s character growth in this episode, though despite Ed’s confidence in being able to get Al’s body back, this episode didn’t provide any details in how this happen, and if any sacrifices or not are required.

Episode Rating: A-
