The Skull Man - Episode Three
This episode of the Skull Man starts of an interesting note Yui the actress being sent a death threat of a picture of herself and her assistant (Sayoko) being crossed out, before Yui falls to the ground due to shock. I thought that the scene where Yui sends a double of her to try and pull one over the press, but it fails was interesting in that I can’t recall an anime that has tried this trick. After some time passes, I thought that the scene where Sayoko and Mayu from the orphanage talking to each other was interesting in that the two were able to connect to due being brought up in the same place.
As Kiriko and Hayato are trying to get into the hall where Sayoko is acting at, due to security guards being posted at every entry location, the pair decided to work part time at a dinner at take away food outlet to get some more details about the scoop. As anime is set in the early 90’s I liked the atmosphere and music where Yui is sent another photograph detailing to meet at the Kagura Theatre at 4:00pm, otherwise the mysterious person will expose her secret of seeing another man.
While Kiriko is bust trying to gather information about Yui, Hayato and Kyoichiro Tachigi decided to share intelligence with each other over a drink. While Hayato and Kyoichiro talk to each other, it was interesting to learn that Kyoichiro only knows how to drink Blue Mountain (a coffee), and Hayato has a blend. While Hayato and Kyoichiro talk, I liked how ever so slightly that Kyoichiro hints to Hayato about Byakureikai being a shady group, by suggesting that the head of that organization (a largest religious group in town) that the chairperson might be Kuroshio Gouzou’s wife Sara Kuroshio. As Hayato doesn’t want to be out done by Kyoichiro, Hayato tells Kyoichiro that there’s a rumor that Kagura Tatsuo is still alive, and wanting vengeance.
As this episode reveals that the person doing the blackmailing is the biker lady from the previous episode, I thought that the scene where Sayoko transforms into a half bird like monster was interesting, as the Skull Man or Skelaton Man appeared and killed Sayako. I thought it was cool that after the incident at the Kagura Theatre, that the incident was covered up, as the news reported the following day that actress Yui Onizuka by a bullet wound to the head, and that Sayoko was dead also. I thought it was good to this episode made the Skeleton Man a character that covers his tracks, and not a ‘bad’ person that is sloppy in the work that he does.
Overall, I thought that this episode of the Skull Man was really good and intriguing on different levels. I was impressed with the music in this episode, as it adds atmosphere to the scenes, and that the music is a combination of trumpets and piano music. Despite the music in this episode, I thought the stand out music scene of this episode came in the form of a slow vocal song that sound like it came from a vinal record, when Hayato was talking to Kyoichiro in this episode.
