Manifest X - Day 2
The word only that comes to my mind that describes this particular day is CRAZY! Even if one arrived a hour to an hour early to collect one’s badges, the line to cue up was already very, very, very big. Despite the large lines that one had to endure to get their on the day reg on pre-reg badge or simply cloak one’s cosplay prop, the atmosphere was really nice, as people in general were friendly, laughing and having a good time, which is the most important thing.
The weather on the Day 2 (Saturday) was better then day one’s (Friday) as it wasn’t raining and the sun was out, though it was mildy windy at times during the day. As the cosplay competition is general recognized as the main event of Manifest, this year’s competition (2009), started of differently from last year’s Manifest (Manifest 9), as it was groups first, then solo entries, while this Manifest (X) it was the reverse of this mostly, with some odd exceptions. As I had always been curious about the editor that runs ANN.au section of ANN, I manged to catch up with him, and have an interesting conversation about various topics.
The highlight of the cosplay comp would have to be the cosplay of the 00 Gundam, as if my memory serves me correct, the individuals making the cosplay spent 8-9 months on it, and was made out of some hardened cardboard material. It was even cool and amazing that the 00 Gundam solar furnaces were able to move. After the cosplay comp, I thought it was cool and nice of the 00 Gundam cosplayer to pose for more photos after the cosplay competition, and I even managed to get some more information on what’s hopefuly coming next year, a Exia Gundam cosplay with Trans-arm or not.
This year’s Manifest(X) was the first year that the convention was going to be 24 hours, as this year they had a Mani-Midnight event, which include various activities. Overall, Day 2 (Saturday) was really amazing, and I thought that the people that decided to cosplay on this day (Day 2), out numbered the people that attended not cosplaying. That’s IMO a really amazing sign that Manifest is getting biger and better, and people that are attending Mainfest are getting more into the spirit of the con. I thought that hosts of cosplay comp really had fantastic cosplays, and below is a picture of them. The cosplay if you don’t know is from Romeo X Juliet.
