Manifest X - Day 1
The first official day of Manifest was a stereotypical winter day in Melbourne, Australia, as it was raining during a period in the day, and the next the sun was out. Despite this year Manifest X holding a pre-breakfast event in the city of Melbourne that day, the lines to collect one’s event passes where pretty big considering day 2 (Saturday) is the main day, where it’s packed. The queuing to get one’s badges this year was interesting it was mainly filled with university students getting their priorities right (ditching classes), and having a bit of fun.
As at most anime conventions that there are stereotypical cosplays from the mainstream anime shows like Death Note, Bleach, Naruto, FMA, One-Piece etc, I thought that there were a decent amount of anime cosplays from non-mainstream anime and non-anime shows like Gravitation, Air Gear, Black Lagoon, and others. I thought it was cool having a Maid Café this year, it should be brought back next year. I thought the most interesting cosplay I saw that day was a Bible Black one, and even manged to get a photo of her. If you haven’t seen Bible Black check it out, it’s a hentai staple.
As the main event on the Friday is the Fruits competition, I thought that this year’s Fruits competition wasn’t as entertaining as last year’s one, as there was a trap in last years competition. I remember this because I last year on day 1of Manifest 2008, I remember running into an old high school friend of mine, and had had a great time chatting to him about various topics.
Overall, day 1 of Manifest X was pretty enjoyable despite the weather, and the number of people that turned up was pretty big, considering it only being Day 1.
