07 Ghost - Episode Twenty One

This episode of 07 Ghost starts off with the higher ups of the military discussing Ayanami breaking the treaty with District 7, but Ayanami’s possibly discussion of being court marshaled is passed over, once they announce that Ayanami now has the Eye of Mikhail in his hands.

As the previous gave the viewer a teaser of the start of the bishop exam, the exam doesn’t start off well for Tieto, as Tieto’s bascule malfunctions. As Bishop Lance has the fun of making the candidate’s of the bishop exam hell, this episode reveals that the two old bishop that got made fun of in the previous episode, are revealed as former arch bishops, and are looking to have some fun during this bishops exam, as they plan to pretend to be examinees, and have some fun.

This episode basically deals with the bishop candidate exam that Tieto and Hakuren must pass in order to be a bishop. I thought it was good that there wasn’t many episodes that dealt with the bishop exam, and that their where various tests and environments that the bishop exam had. While the bishop exam was taking place, I thought it was it interesting that the sisters revealed that when Castor and Frau took the bishop exam as a team, that Castor failed the bishop exam two years in a row, due to Frau. Overall, I thought that the bishop exam in this episode was better then the exam(s) in the Naruto series, though can’t top the test that the characters took in the Planetes anime series

Overall, I thought that this episode was solid, and provided some great character interaction, character development, drama and comedy. As I’m not quite sure of the episode count of this series, this series has become a guilty pleasure TV series for myself, and can’t wait to see a Tieto and Ayanami showdown, if this occurs.

07 Ghost - Episode Twenty

As the previous episode of 07 Ghost episode on a cliffhanger, I thought that this episode opened interestingly, with Hakuren doing his best to help rescue Teito from Haruse and Kuroyuri. I thought that the scene of seeing Hakuren and Frau attacking Ayanami’s men while on various flying machines was truly a great treat to anime fans wanting to see a fight scene, while in mid-air. The mid-air combat action continues in this episode continues, as Frau and one of Aya-tan’s henchmen fight hand to hand with one another, while piloting their flying machines.

As there have been be many scenes in anime where there are character falling in the sky, I thought this episode handled the scene of Tieto trying to grab the eye of Mikhail was good, as Frau decided to grab Teito, while Aya-tan’s henchmen grabbed the eye of Mikhail. I thought the character development that occurs between Teito and Frau after this scene, highlights the truth feelings of Frau, then the personality that he shows in District 9.

As I’m a fan of insert songs in an episode of anime, I thought that the small insert song that plays in this episode (The Raggs Requiem) suited this episode perfectly. After the aftermath of this episode, I thought that series moving in the direction of Tieto and Hakuren going for the bishop’s test in the next episode should be at least interesting, as I thought that Bishop Lance (the head examiner of the bishop test) introduction in this episode was entertaining, as seems to be a very interesting character.

Overall, I thought that this episode was really solid, and that the scene of Arch-angel Mikhail possible awakening in this episode, was the highlight for me in this episode. I also thought that chibi or young Tieto is so cute and adorable, that I had to take screen caps of him. Also while watching this episode, I was again impressed with the art direction of this, and makes me wonder why can’t all anime series have good art direction and character designs like this series.

07 Ghost - Episode Nineteen

As the previous episode of 07 Ghost had a lot going on in it from a plot and character development point of view, the episode starts off with Liam and Ouida attending the Archbishops sermon. As the previous episode had Castor dealing with Kuroyuri, I thought that it was good learning that Castor’s Ghost name is Feist in this episode. I thought that fight between Castor, Aya-tan (Ayanami) and Kuroyuri was more intense then I thought as what ever damage that Castor inflicted on Kuroyuri, Ayanami would also feel that damage.

Despite Kuroyuri and Haruse managing to escape from Labador and Castor, I thought that the scene that involved Frau, Castor, Labador and the sisters paying their respects to Bastin was interesting and well done, and it combined some humor (mostly from Frau), and the trio dodging the sisters getting more suspicious of Frau being an Ghost. I thought that the scene that involved Tieto remembering that the scene from the previous episode of Frau saying he wouldn’t mind dying from Teito’s hand was interesting, as it certainly pushed Teito’s and Frau’s relationship in an interesting direction, while using some comedy to make the drama not to heavy.

As I have been impressed with the art direction of this series, I thought that this episode contained a fair bit of scenes, which highlighted the stunning work of the art director for this series. I thought that this episode interestingly, with Kuroyuri and Haruse attacking Tieto at the end of this episode. Before I ended with a summary this episode, as I’m interested in the wardrobe of the outfits or clothes that characters were throughout a series, I thought that the morning out fits of the priests are designed well, and the trio of Frau, Castor and Labador looked good in them, IMO (in my opinion).

Overall, I thought that this episode was typically a good episode of 07 Ghost, and I even enjoyed the small scene of Lazet making faces under the water, to help Ouida remember a biblical phrase.

Anime & Canaan 31 Aug 2009 03:44 pm

Canaan - Episode Eight

This episode of Canaan basically deals with the aftermath of the events of the previous episode, I thought the episode got interesting as Kenji Osawa and Mino were discussing the possibility of infected people that didn’t die with the Ua virus, possibly being experiments of the Snakes organization, and the Snakes organization possibly having the anti-virus or not for the Ua virus.

As this episode deals with Canaan losing her abilities to see colours, I thought it was interesting that this episode gave a little insight into the colours that Canaan sees. Below is a small list of colours that Canaan can see.

Green is fear.
Grey is hunger.
Blue is intent to kill.

As the pop idol Nene appears in this episode, I’ve sort of come to the conclusion that Nene appears in episodes that are even, which can be seen from my updated list of the upcoming pop idol Nene.

Nene the upcoming Pop Idol appearance list:
1) Episode One, Shanghai Festival.
2) Episode Six, International Anti-Terrorism Meeting.
3) Episode Eight, Nene live concert.

As the taxi drive that appeared in episode two seems to make cameo appearances in this series, I have decided to change the list to when he makes an appearance in this series, and not when he meets Mino.

Mino meets the Taxi driver
1) Episode 2, after being chased by Borners in a car.
2) Episode 4, going out to a restaurant with Maria.
3) Episode 6, going to the International Anti-Terrorism Meeting to find Maria.
4) Episode 7, on stand by for Mino, near the International Anti-Terrorism Meeting.
5) Episode 8, sees Maria and Canaan, asks them to see Nene live.

Despite this episode focusing a little on Canaan, and her thoughts and problems about not being able to see colours of people, I thought it was interesting that this episode focused a little on Hakko, and her insecurities. I thought it was interesting that the people that Mino meet at the Cosplay Santna bar, decided to go with Mino, Maria and Canaan to the west, to where the village disappeared. I thought it was interesting that when Maria asked Canaan to pose for a photo, that Canaan made an interesting pose, due to Canaan apparently not being sure what Maria meant. I really hope that Canaan and Maria are able to at very least be able to take a nice photo of them, just for sentimental reasons. I thought the character development between Canaan and Hakko was interesting, though I thought that character development between Mino and Hakko’s friend/lover was more interesting to me, as the two played off one another well.

Overall, I thought that this episode slowed the pace of the story a little, while providing some interesting and non-interesting elements to the story of Canaan. As YunYun appeared at the end of this episode, here’s an update of YunYun’s various job list.

YunYun’s various jobs list in the series
Episode 1: Festival store attendant
Episode 2: Chinese restaurant waitress
Episode 3: Seaside waitress
Episode 4: Chinese restaurant musical performer
Episode 5: Bunny girl waitress
Episode 8: Silk Road Steam Buns bicycle seller

Canaan - Episode Seven

After the events of the previous episodes of Canaan, this episode starts off with the U.S staff and various heads of departments, talking about the Ua virus, and various decisions that they have to make. I though it was cool that the seal of the President of the U.S.A coat of arms was worthy of being done in CG (computer Graphics), as it looked really nice in the background, while various staff members decided the next course of action. As most Hollywood movies now seem to copy the special effects from the Matrix, I thought that the Matrix like effects that are used when Canaan enters the International Anti-Terrorism Meeting and finds Maria was really cool and stylish, and fits well in this anime series and episode.

As I have found Liang Qi as one of the most likeable female characters from this year, I liked how in this episode Liang Qi basically goes crazy, after Alphard refers to Liang Qi as a pawn. Am I the only one that thinks that Liang Qi and Dilandu (from Escaflowne) make a nice couple? I thought that this episode was interesting as the viewer got some more details about Alphard’s past, as Alphard was also named Canaan, but decided to abandoned that name, and go by another name.

I thought that the scene where the U.S Presidential Cabinet got pawned by the digital trick of Kenji Osawa ‘dying’ was funny, as it reminded of all the twists and turns that occurred in the Laughing Man arc of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. I thought that this episode handled the tension very well, and thought some of the code words used by the stealth bomber pilots, reminded me of the Yukakize OVA series.

Overall, I thought that this episode was good, though I waiting for the episode where Liang Qi and Canaan finally battle one another, as I hoping it will live up to the hype that has been built up upon by previous episodes of Canaan

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Episode Eightteen

I thought that this episode started off on an interesting note, with Ed going back to Resembool, and Al, Wirny and Ling are at Central. As this episode starts going into a direction different from the previous series of Full Metal Alchemist, I thought the introduction of the Xeres Kingdom was an interesting element to the story, though I though the light humor that Armstrong provided after Lt. Ross’s re-introducing herself to Edward, was welcomed, as the episode got a bit serious and mysterious.

I thought seeing Maria Ross end up temporarily going to Xing, is a small plot device to put her character on the shelf for some time, before possibly making a surprise return possibly or not later on in the series. As Barry, Hawkeye, Havoc and other people under Mustang are setting a trap to fish out the person responsible for Hughes murder, I thought that action scene that occurred near the end of this episode was really well choreographed, and liked how Barry wanted to cut up his original body, which was an interesting twist to this episode.

Despite a fair bit happening in Central in this episode, I thought the most interesting element of this episode involved Edward learning the identity of the person responsibly for killing Wirny’s parents, but I have a feeling that Edward won’t just be motivated to hurt/injure Scar because of this, as Edward I believe would need something like Scar possibly giving Al the final killing blow, to motivate Edward properly to kill Scar.

Overall, I thought that this episode was interesting, though would like to see the remaining homunculus getting involved, as their participation would really spice up this series.

Naruto Shippuuden Special : Kakashi Gaiden

As I am a casual viewer of the Naruto and Naruto Shippuudeen series, and that Kakashi is one of my favourite characters from the Naruto franchise, I was really happy that the Kakashi Gaiden manga got animated, as it deals more about Kakashi’s background, and how Team 7 is similar to Namikaze Minato’s Team.

I won’t go into detail what happens in this special, but it’s a rare gem of an episode.

Naruto Shippuuden Movie 2: Bonds

As I thought that the first Naruto Shippuuden Movie was a nice movie to start the Naruto Shippuuden movie franchise on a good note, I’d thought that I might as well check out the second movie to see if this Naruto Shippuuden Movie, was able to move the Naruto franchise is a positive direction or not.

As the movie opened with a scene of Sasuke performing his Cidori technique, I thought that this was a mean teaser to start off with, as I thought that the scene of having the Sky Country soldiers launch from their sea ships from the catapult IMO (in my opinion) would have been a better opening scene then Sasuke doing his Chidori. This Naruto Shippudden Movie features another group of ninja’s or people wanting world domination or revenge, as its the Sky Country turn to be the typical villains in this movie.

As this Naruto Shippuuden Movie has some new characters in this movie, they are Amaru and Shinou. Naruto, Sakura and Hinata are teamed up together to help protect Amaru and Shinou to Amaru’s home, and I thought seeing Hinata and Sakura in the same team as Naruto was interesting, due to the fact Hinata and Sakura a possible love rivals.
As I find the concept of Sasuke being in this movie just to please the Naruto fan base, Oochormo wants Sasuke to capture Shinou, because he has possible discovered some new rebirth techniques, which will hopefully prolong Orochimaru’’s life, and Sasuke is the message boy.

As Naruto, Hinata, Sasuke, Shinoe and Amaru get closer to Amaru’s village, I thought it was interesting that Amaru is a trap (a girl), as I first thought from seeing Amaru’s character design that she was a he. When Naruto, Hinata, Sasuke, Shinoe and Amaru get closer to Amaru’s village only to discover that the village has been burnt to the ground, I thought that the scene where Shinou saves Amaru’s life from multiple flying daggers was a bit unemotional, as it’s hard to convey much character development between Amaru and Shinou in half an hour.

As the movie drifted into the scene of where Amaru is possessed or not by Reibi (Zero Tails), I was a little shocked seeing a villain pop out of no where. As Naruto has the potential to go Kuubi, I thought seeing Naruto transform into Kyuubi was a bit over the top, as seeing Naruto going Kubyi in the Naruto Shippudden series was cool and exciting, but having it occur is a movie felt a bit lame, as it seems to many fan elements just got put into this movie, just to make the Naruto Shippudden fanbase happy, and not think about putting out quality movie. If Naruto transformed into Kyuudi and did a Rusengen, and Sasuke transformed into his second stage and did his Chidori and the pair combined their power moves to defeat the villain in this movie, then I wouldn’t have minded, but seeing Naurto transform into Kyuubi in this movie early, really didn’t do anything to me except think about the scene in the Naruto Shippuuddern TV series where Naruto transformed into Kyuubi, which the fight and build up to Naruto transforming was better IMO (in my opinion).

When Naruto and Amuri got inside the flying fortress, I thought Shinou’s explanation about being evil, was that typical of a villain. Even though this Naruto movies rubbed on myself being a movie for younger audiences, and fans of Naruto Shippuuden, I thought that the scene where Amuri does the body revival technique, I laughed pretty hard in that I thought that Amuri had turned Super Sayian, as his body got a lot muscular, and his hair is now has long hair like Super Sayian three. After Naruto fights the Sky Emperor, it’s not long before Sasuke shows up, and the duo of Sasuke and Naruto end up finally destroying Amaru.

Overall, I thought that this Naruto Shippuudeen movie was below average, in that I felt that there were too many elements in this movie, and that there wasn’t much real character development from Amuri and Sasuke in this movie. I thought that from an animation point of view that this movie was pretty well animated, but from an musical point of view, I thought that the background music was rather average, as I am wondering why no music from the Naruto Shippuuden TV series was used in this movie, as I feel that some of the music from the Naruto Shippuuden TV series is quite good. I thought that the probably the best element from this movie was the mechanical designs of the Sky Country, and thought the elements of Sasuke, Orochimaru , Kyuubi really messed up the story elements of this movie.

If I was the production crew of the next Naruto Shippudden movie, which involves Gara’s return, I hope that the movie can bring across some sort of character development between the characters, as good characters are the core/fundamental reasons why Naruto is popular.

Cannan - Episode Six

This episode of Cannan starts off with the viewer getting some insight about the Borners, and the Kashmir area being the area where the Ua virus possible started. As the last episode of Cannan ended with a letter being put under Mino and Maria’s hotel home, this episode reveals that the pair have been invited to the International Anti-Terrorism Meeting.

As this episode features the pop singer that has been mentioned in previous episode of Cannan, Liang Qi shooting Cummings with a toy gun and Mino meeting the same taxi driver in episode two, I’ve decided to compile a small list about the above scenes.

Liang Qi Shooting Cumming with toy gun:
1) Episode 2, scene occurring in the DAEDALA Corporation
2) Episode 4, scene occurring in the limo after Alphard exits the limo.
3) Episode 6, International Anti-Terrorism

Pop Idol appearance
1) Episode One, Shanghai Festival
2) Episode Six, International Anti-Terrorism Meeting.
Mino meets the Taxi driver
1) Episode 2, after being chased by Borners in a car.
2) Episode 4, going out to a restaurant with Maria.
3) Episode 6, going to the International Anti-Terrorism Meeting to find Maria.

My thoughts about this episode are that I really liked the SD (super deformed) Liang Qi teasing the terrified patrons of the International Anti-Terrorism Meeting, with smart remarks about escaping. I thought the President’s of the USA speech isn’t as funny as the piss my pants president from R.O.D (Read or Die OVA or TV series). I thought that Liang Qi’s antics about wanting Cannan to rescue Maria were awesome, and was the highlight for me in this episode. I thought it was interesting that the taxi driver and the pop idol that make cameo appearances in this series, was a nice little touch to this episode.

I thought that the Ua virus is really a cool virus, in that the viewer was able to see a infected person die in glory, while scaring the crap out of the individuals standing next to infected person. Overall, I thought that this episode was very good, and hope the next episode is as good as this one.
