Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Episode Sixteen

I was happy that this episode gave the names of the body guards guarding Ling Yao, and they are Mr.Fu and Ran Fan. I thought that the scene where the Cigarette Man ( Jean Havoc) and Kain Fuery have to guard Number 66 (Barry the Chopper) was interesting, as I like how Number 66 is portrayed as a witness was interesting. Number 66 IMO (in my opinion) has nice chemistry with Mustang’s chargers, despite his obsession with chopping people up.

I thought that the scene of Envy disguising himself as Mr. Focker was interesting, in that I found it hard to watch the scenes where Edward, Al, Armstrong, and Roy are having conversations at Central Headquarters because I wasn’t sure if the person was truly that person, or Envy playing more tricks on people, and gathering intelligence on the Elric’s and case about Hughes murder.

I thought the way this episode handled Al, Edward and Wirny coming to terms with Hughes murder was mature and handled better than the previous series of Full Metal Alchemist. I thought that the scene where Lust, Envy and Gluttony where having a secret meeting with one another was interesting in that I thought it was interesting seeing Gluttony giving a caged prisoner with a mask on his face was more interesting then trying to manipulate Edward, as I was wondering if Gluttony or the prisoner that was being a dog, was Gluttony follows Lust around.

I thought the last couple of minutes of this episode really made things interesting, as Lt. Ross has been charged with Hughes death, and Lust has disguised herself as a woman by the name of Solaris, as Jean’s girlfriend.

Overall, I thought that this episode was pretty solid, but as the next episode preview has images of Al fighting Number 66 (Barry the Chopper) again, I really wonder why can’t Al and Number 88 team up for a little while, just to see what a team of soulless amour people can do.

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Episode Fifteen

Before I get into the review for this episode, as this episode features a new opening and closing theme, my thoughts regarding the new opening theme is that I don’t really like the song. Regarding the animation part of the new opening theme in this episode is that I thought that it gave the viewer a nice teaser of potential events that may or not may occur in the series. If I had to give this opening theme out of 10, I would give it a 5 because the song is passable, and the animation cut scenes IMO (in my opinion) isn’t as exciting as the previous animation from the previous opening theme of Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

Regarding the new closing theme in this episode of Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is that I though that the animation scenes were okay, and I thought that the vocals of the new ending theme conveyed some sort of slowness to the series. If I had to give this closing a rating out of 10, I would give it 6.5 out of ten.

This episode of Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood starts off in an interesting fashion, with Scar doing battle with the Silver Alchemist, Giolio Comanche. Giolio Comanche character design sort of reminds be of Pierrot Le Fou from episode twenty of Cowboy Bebop. Giolio Comanche isn’t as creepy, cold and savage as Pierrot Le Fou IMO (in my opinion).

As this episode features a new and closing theme, this episode also introduces another character to the Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood in the form of May Chang. This episode surprised me in that May Chang performs Eastern Alchemy from the nation of Xing, to heal a wound that Scar got from battling Giolio Comanche, the Silver Alchemist. I thought that May Chang’s companion (the little panda) named Shao May is really cute. As I watched May interact with Scar, I hoping that May and Scar may have a relationship like Rin and Sesshomaru have in Inu-Yasha, as it would take Scar’s character in an interesting direction. As May Chang wants to meet Edward, I thought that the scene of possible seeing Shoa May ( May Chang panda) interacting with Winry’s dog in Rockwell sure would be interesting to watch two animals interacting with one another sure would be interesting.

I thought that the scene where Riza Hawkeye ran into Barry the Chopper or Number 66 was interesting as Riza owned Number 66. Also I thought that Riza Hawkeye looked really nice with her hair down, as that there should be more scenes in Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood with Riza with her hair down. As May Chang has made her introduction in this episode, this episode also introduces Ling Yao also in this episode.

As this episode had Ed and Al fight Ling Yao’s body guards, I thought the best part of the fight between these characters is seeing Paninya team up with Al to stop one of Ling Yoa’s body guards, followed Al now also having the ability to perform alchemy without a transmutation circle. As one of he few things I liked about the Full Metal Alchemist Movie was seeing Al dressed up in Ed’s costume and performing alchemy, I hope that future episodes of seeing Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood has a scene of Ed and Al performing alchemy together without a transmutation circle, as IMO (in my opinion) it would be a nice scene to see the Elric brothers show there stuff with alchemy.

Overall, I thought this episode was interesting with some new characters introduced, though if I was Edward fighting the girl body guard of Ling Yao, I would have teased her saying she’s not the hots for Ling Yao, just to get under her skin and understand her motives for following Ling Yao. It would have been good to get the names of Ling Yao’s body guards, though hopefully it’s not long before the viewer gets their names, instead of referring them as body guards for Ling Yao. My thoughts of Ling Yao are that I really don’t like his character, as I get the feeling that the interaction between Ed and May Chang will be better IMO (in my opinion).

07 Ghost - Episode Sixteen

This episode starts off with Castor informing Teito that Bishop Fea Kreuz stole Pandora’s Box from the church, and escaped to the Raggs Church. Castor reveals that the evil Death God Verloren’s body has slept within that box for over a thousand years. Castor goes on to say that the Barburg Empire attacked and destroyed the Raggs Kingdom. After Labour receives word that Frau has been given the death sentence in this episode, I thought it was interesting seeing a little of the political side of District 7, as the Arch Bishop discuss the situation with Frau. I thought it was interesting that a tainted person could have handled a Warsfiel dagger. I was impressed with the Arch Bishop as he analyzed Frau’s personality and his duties to the church, and elements about a Warsfiel dagger, to come up with the conclusion that there is a spy in the church, and the Arch Bishop didn’t have one of those long redundant speeches with himself discussing this issue with other priests and getting into a big fight about if Frau is innocent or not.

As Frau is being kept in the Dungeon of Light, Teito asks around to find where this place is, and Lazet jumps out to get Teito’s attention to show Teito where Frau is being kept. I thought the underwater world that Lazet seems to have the run of is simply incredible, as it’s rare for an anime IMO (in my opinion) where there’s practically another underwater world. I thought it was pretty neat in that swallowing one of Lazet’s scales enables a person to breath underwater without any problems.

When Teito got to Frau’s cell, I thought it was interesting that Teito was able to use zaiphon, and that I wouldn’t mind seeing an underwater zaiphon fight in future episodes of 07 Ghost, as underwater spell casting fight is something that I think is very rare in anime. I thought that the scene where Frau dedicates Verse 17 from the third volume of the Barsbung Bible to Teito look really stunning. Also I thought that the scene where Teito smiles back to Frau was a nice emotional moment in this episode, and the soft piano music that was playing throughout this scene really conveyed the emotion of Frau accepting Teito’s smile.

Overall, I was impressed with this episode in that it was a bit plot heavy early on in this episode, but this episode was then able to successful slow down, and hit the emotional button when Teito smiled to Frau in this episode. Also this is one of the few episodes where Lazet’s cuteness overshadowed Mikage’s cuteness. I also thought that the way this episode ended with an artistic like picture of Hakuren and Teito entering the scene of Frau’s crime, was really good, as I like the time, effort and skill that the production crew or artist takes to make scenes/pictures like this.

The Skull Man - Episode Four

This episode of the Skull Man starts off on an interesting note with Kiriko and Hayato going back to the orphanage/church, where Hayato talks to Kanzaki about Sayo. I thought the scene where Kiriko is playing sumo wrestling with the kids of the orphanage was funny, as this scene shows that Kiriko is still part kid, despite her traveling with Hayato. While the kids of the orphanage are fighting for Kiriko’s affections and attention, the orphanage kids discuss the topic of the Phantom Monorail, where the last stop is hell.

I thought that the next scene of where a person is being chased by the Skeleton Man and being killed was really well directed, as the music, and direction really captured the fear of the person running away from Skeleton Man, which was like Terminator like IMO (in my opinion). I thought the brief scene of news headlines passing across the screen with the newspaper rolls in the background working, really captured the atmosphere of the period that this anime is set in. When I saw the big Skull Message sign in this episode, I immediately thought that it’s a message from The Phantom, as the Phantom has a skull symbol.

As section Chief Suzuki died at the hands of the Skeleton Man in this episode, while riding the Phantom Monorail at midnight, I really found Chief Usami to be an interesting character, as it seems at first glance that his the stereotypical mad scientist character, but the way Suzuki interacted with Hayato indicates that his not a ‘dumb’ character, and even manages to give Hayato a screw you smile, when Hayato tried to suck information from him, when asking for a light to lit his cigarette.

I thought that Kiriko’s Byakureiki Report scene where Kiriko presents Hayato with her photo’s that she got of the people going into the Byakureiki building was interesting, as Kiriko seems to have the ability to make any scene interesting, was adding some more intrigue to the Byakureiki religious group. I thought that the scene where Hayato and Kyoichiro talked about the book that Chief Usami may have been reading was interesting, as it talked about words that mean Superhuman Ideal.

I thought that the scene where Hayato decides to take a trip on the Phantom Monorail was interesting, in that the scenes of where Hayato and Kyoichiro try to stop the Skeleton Man from killing was realistic, and the scene showed that this imposter of the real Skeleton Man is not undefeatable.

Overall, I thought that this episode was really solid, with more hints about where the plot may go, was also adding more depth to the relationship of the cast members of The Skull Man.

Cannan - Episode Three

This episode starts off with Mino and Maria following the cat girl from the end of the previous episode to a Japanese-style night club called the Cosplay Santna. It’s not long before Mino and Maria are kicked out of the night club, but I thought that the scene where Liang Qi’shoots rubber bullets into Cummings back again was funny. I hope the scene of Liang Qi shooting rubber bullets into Cummings back is a scene that is reoccurring in this series.

As in the previous episode of Cannan that Maria told Cannan the hotel see was at to spend some time with her, the following day Cannan finds the inn where Mino and Maria are staying at, and Cannan and Maria decided to spend some time with one another. While Cannan and Maria spend some time with one another, my guess that girl/lady that was the waitress in the previous episode, and store vendor in episode one of Cannan, appears in this episode as a waitress for a diner in this episode. If the next episode has this character making a cameo appearance in the next episode, it looks like I will most likely have to compile a list of jobs/appearance(s) that she makes in this series, just to keep track on her appearances/jobs in this series.

While Cannan spends time with Maria, the viewer learns that Cannan had a sister, but doesn’t go into detail about her. The viewer learns Cannan lost her family in the war in her hometown and that this episode reveals that the tattoo or mark on her left arm is of snake, which is part of a pair.

I thought that the scene were Mino meets the girl from the Cosplay Santna the previous night was interesting, as I wonder if that she will or not play a future role in this series. When Cannan and Maria continue there day out with one another, this episode has the boy how was with the old man from the previous episode kidnaps Maria, and straps a bomb to her. While Cannan is trying to save Maria, the mysterious boy informs Cannan that in the town that he was born in that everyone was used as test subjects for the Ua Virus. I thought the twist where the mysterious boy blackmailed Maria to only say a few select words, otherwise he will blow himself up was really interesting, as it seems the mysterious boys goal was to make Maria see a different side of Cannan that she hasn’t seen before. As the trick bomb that was placed on Maria’d head played the song that played in the previous episode, I hope that this song will be released on the Cannan soundtrack(s), because the song does sound good.

Overall, this episode was interesting then the previous two episodes, in that it focused on Cannan and Maria, thought from a plot point of view, I’m still a little bit lost what Liang Qi and her sister is planning. As Mino didn’t much screen time in this episode I hope that his relationship with the girl/lady that he meet in this episode develops, as it would be interesting, since she also one of those weird marks on her body.

07 Ghost - Episode Fifteen

This episode of 07 Ghost starts off in an interesting fashion, with Haruse starting their attack against Teito, with Haruse giving Teito a necklace with the message of ‘Please remember how I am’, and informs Teito that the church isn’t on their side, and that Castor should explain things. As Fea has now planted a seed of doubt into Teito, I thought that the scene where Hakuren slaps Teito on the back to tell him that Teito shouldn’t worry about, and that he will be always on his side, has shown that Teito and Hakuren’s relationship has developed in an interesting way.

As Teito is with Hakuren, I thought that the scene where Castor, Frau and Labador are talking with the head of the church about the creatures trying to break Verloren’s seal was interesting, as I was wondering why only the Seven Ghosts should be the only one to manipulate souls. I thought it was interesting that the viewer learns that Verloren’s body has been sealed for over a thousand years, due to the Eye of Mikhail. Also the viewer learns that thanks to the Eye of Raphael, that Verloren’s powerless soul has been reborn in various human bodies.

I thought that the scene where Frau is playing with the kids of District 7 was interesting, as it’s a side of Frau that the viewer hasn’t seen so far in the series. This episode has Kuroyuri finally meet Frau in this episode, and the two engaged one another in battle. After their exchange Kuroyuri manages to escape from Frau, but during their exchange with one another, Kuroyuri throws a tainted knife at a prisoner, and after Kuroyuri manages to make his escape, Frau is seen by the church guards holding the tainted knife, as is arrested for suspicion of killing criminals, but Kuroyuri tricked Frau into his trap/

I thought that the scene of Kuroyuri breaking down due to thinking about Ayanami’s scythe being tainted by Frau was interesting, and the episode ends with Teito siding with the Church and learns that Bishop Fea Kreuz was excommunicated from the church. Overall, I thought that this episode was very interesting, as things developed in an interesting fashion, and hopefully the plot of 07 Ghost will keep moving forward in an interesting direction. From the next episode preview, I was interested to see Teito and Lazet swimming around the church, and possible rescuing Frau from his cell in the next episode, as seeing more about how Lazet moves around District 7 has been something I have been interested in, since seeing Lazet in this series.

Vampire Knight Guilty - Episode Four

This episode of Vampire Knight: Guilty starts off with Senri returning home, he is shown a family secret, his father. I thought that the scene where Senri’s father tries to take Seni’s power was interesting, as it seems there’s a juicy story behind and occurring with the awakening of Senri’s father.

I thought it was interesting that this episode of Vampire Knight: Guilty was able to include some fan service in this episode despite Vampire Knight: Guilty not being a series that has a lot of fan service in it. As Zero has been working as part of the Vampire’s Hunters Association in this series and previous series of Vampire Knight, I thought it was good to see more the Vampire Hunters Association Headquarters, as the viewer gets an insight into the world of vampire hunting. My initial thought about the president of the Vampire Hunter Association is manipulative due to his character design and voice. My initial thoughts were confirmed when Zero and the president of the vampire hunter association have a private talk with one another. I thought it was interesting to learn in this episode that Cross was a vampire hunter, when he was young. As the statement the curse of the twins has been a small plot device in the previous episodes of Vampire Knight: Guilty, is episode explains that is a family of vampire hunters, that twins will never be born. And if by any chance that twins are conceived in a vampire hunter’s family, that one will consume the other.

As it’s now back to school for the students of Cross Academy, Kaname gives Yuki a gift of a rose that blooms only once every ten years, that is solidified in resin. Kaname also gives Zero a life-sized curse doll but Zero refuses it. As I have read the manga of Vampire Knight, I remember the scene in the manga of Vampire Knight has Zero accepting the life-size curse doll from Kananme, and the Zero steps on the curse doll, which makes a funny sound when Zero steps on it.

I thought this episode got more interesting as this episode revealed that Kaname reveals that his parents didn’t commit suicide, but were murdered. I thought this episode ended on an interesting note with Ichijou meeting a new Lord.

Overall, I thought that this episode was better than previous episodes of Vampire Knight: Guilty due to answering some questions about the plot of this series, will also expanding new plot ideas from previous episodes of Vampire Knight: Guilty.

Canaan - Episode Two

As the first episode of Cannan was a series that blew me away with its first episode, I thought that this episode may decrease in quality, but I glad to see that this episode has elevated my fears, as this episode kept up the quality of the previous episode. As the previous episode ended with a transport vehicle being intercepted by Liang Qi, and it is revealed the person being transported is Liang Qi’s sister.

As Liang Qi’s sister and Cannan are the two individuals featured standing next to each other at the last shot at the opening theme, I’m wondering what her relationship with Cannan is. After Liang Qi’s sister is rescued, the plot thickens a little, as the episode goes into detail about the Ua Virus, and that Maria Oosawa was forcefully infected with this virus. Later on the viewer learns that Maria Oosawa’s father (Kenji Oosawa) was chairman of Ookoshi Pharmaceutical Research lab. Maria was kept alive due to an anti-virus that she was given, and that as Maria’s dream was to be a photographer that’s how she got her job at Heaven Publishing.

I thought that the seen where Liang Qi was shooting rubber balls at Cummings back was funny, as it showed how bored Liang Qi is, as it’s been a while since I’ve seen a bad character make fun of their friends/associates, and be able to get away with it. As this episode featured the festival store girl that Cannan had a problem with stuffing two meat buns in her chest to make the customers happy, reminded me of the scene from Samurai Champloo where Fau putts two bombs in her chest. Anyway I wonder if that having the store festival owner in different costumes in each episode will be a reoccurring element of this series, anyway it makes me want to watch the next episode just to see if I am right or not.

I thought that the taxi scene involving Maria and Mino was really creative, un-stereotypical, and even funny. I thought the action scene involving Canaan and the old man was short and sweet. Despite the episode ending with Mino and Maria meeting a fortune cat at the end of the episode, the elements of this episode that makes me want to watch this episode is that the character personality are interesting, and the fight and action scenes are very well animated, intense, realistic (to a degree) and the action scenes are scenes that haven’t been seen in anime before, thus making them mind blowing to the viewer.

As I get the feeling that this series is going to get more popular as each episode passes, I’m looking forward to the fan fiction, hentai, cosplay, jokes and doujins of this series that the anime fan community can deliver from this series.

Anyway, I was impressed with this episode, though I would like to know the names of some characters in this series, as I’m a bit lost with what’s going on from a plot point of view, but so far the whole production crew of Cannan gets a thumbs from me so far, as it’s been a while since I can’t wait to see the next episode from a series.

The Skull Man - Episode Three

This episode of the Skull Man starts of an interesting note Yui the actress being sent a death threat of a picture of herself and her assistant (Sayoko) being crossed out, before Yui falls to the ground due to shock. I thought that the scene where Yui sends a double of her to try and pull one over the press, but it fails was interesting in that I can’t recall an anime that has tried this trick. After some time passes, I thought that the scene where Sayoko and Mayu from the orphanage talking to each other was interesting in that the two were able to connect to due being brought up in the same place.

As Kiriko and Hayato are trying to get into the hall where Sayoko is acting at, due to security guards being posted at every entry location, the pair decided to work part time at a dinner at take away food outlet to get some more details about the scoop. As anime is set in the early 90’s I liked the atmosphere and music where Yui is sent another photograph detailing to meet at the Kagura Theatre at 4:00pm, otherwise the mysterious person will expose her secret of seeing another man.

While Kiriko is bust trying to gather information about Yui, Hayato and Kyoichiro Tachigi decided to share intelligence with each other over a drink. While Hayato and Kyoichiro talk to each other, it was interesting to learn that Kyoichiro only knows how to drink Blue Mountain (a coffee), and Hayato has a blend. While Hayato and Kyoichiro talk, I liked how ever so slightly that Kyoichiro hints to Hayato about Byakureikai being a shady group, by suggesting that the head of that organization (a largest religious group in town) that the chairperson might be Kuroshio Gouzou’s wife Sara Kuroshio. As Hayato doesn’t want to be out done by Kyoichiro, Hayato tells Kyoichiro that there’s a rumor that Kagura Tatsuo is still alive, and wanting vengeance.

As this episode reveals that the person doing the blackmailing is the biker lady from the previous episode, I thought that the scene where Sayoko transforms into a half bird like monster was interesting, as the Skull Man or Skelaton Man appeared and killed Sayako. I thought it was cool that after the incident at the Kagura Theatre, that the incident was covered up, as the news reported the following day that actress Yui Onizuka by a bullet wound to the head, and that Sayoko was dead also. I thought it was good to this episode made the Skeleton Man a character that covers his tracks, and not a ‘bad’ person that is sloppy in the work that he does.

Overall, I thought that this episode of the Skull Man was really good and intriguing on different levels. I was impressed with the music in this episode, as it adds atmosphere to the scenes, and that the music is a combination of trumpets and piano music. Despite the music in this episode, I thought the stand out music scene of this episode came in the form of a slow vocal song that sound like it came from a vinal record, when Hayato was talking to Kyoichiro in this episode.

07 Ghost - Episode Fourteen

As this episode is entitled ‘A reason to fight together…..The right to be called brothers in arms’, this episode develops the relationship between Teito and Hakuren.

I thought that the scene where Sisters Rosalie’s takes a pillow to the face due to two priests candidate’s pillow fighting was interesting, as the two candidate’s discuss sister Rosalie being so cute, and sister Libelle being scary.

As Hakuren has gotten a few episodes to start to get along with Mikage in the series, I thought that the scene where Hakuren tries to feed Mikage some milk, but accidentally makes Hakuren spill it, was a good scene to show Hakuren getting upset with Mikage.

As the next episode preview from the previous had Teito do some special training with Castor with some multiple Frau Kor dolls, this special training is to work on Teito’s mentality. Seeing so many Frau Kor dolls will give anyone nightmares, even Teito. After Teito does some special training with Castor, when Teito returns to his dorm, Hakuren notices that Teito has a brand marking him as a battle sklave. I thought that the scene where Teito and Hakuren discuss various topics, I thought that this episode showed in a subtly way of Hakuren’s beauty, without Hakuren flaunting his good looks.
Hakuren talks to Teito that the reason that he decided to take the priest test because his mother was tainted by a Kor, and that Bishop Frau saved Hakuren’s mother from becoming a Kor, and then decided to walk his own path to be a priest.

As the 07 Ghost world has been intriguing to me, I thought it was good to learn that the thing that attacked Hakuren and Teito was a Wars, and that a Warsfeil is a black sorcerer. I thought when the episode moved to Frau, Teito and Hakuren was interesting, as the viewer got a little insight into Frau’s daily life.

Overall, I thought that episode of 07 Ghost was intriguing on many levels, as it gave the viewer a look at different relationships of this series.
