Bleach:The DiamondDust Rebellion article + Hei Mask

I picked up the lastest Animage cheaply, from a japanese shop that wanted to clear some stock quickly, and as the raw for the second Bleach movie is making it’s way across the internet, I thought that I would share the little section that is dedicated to the second Bleach movie in the Animage. I can speak a little japanese, but I can’t translate it.

The extra in the Animemage was a Darker than Black booklet, that also featured a mini-poster in it. As the second opening of Darker than Black featured multiple Hei’s, I guess that scene may have inspired the release of the Hei mask.

Romeo X Juliet - Episode Twenty One

This episode opens with Juliet understanding what she must do to save Neo Verona. As Grand Duke Montague in the previous episode passed the agenda item to burn the people that have sided with the Capulets, Mercutio is carrying out this very order. While Mercutio is burning parts of the village of Neo Verona, Romeo meets his father, and Romeo is so against of what his father has become, that Romeo decides to leave the keep, and his father, for good.

While this scene is playing out, I sort of wondered where Romeo’s is, as it seems that she has been pushed into the background, after that she meet Juliet, and thus allowing Romeo and Juliet to get married, and have a small leave of absence from the main city. I wonder if there’s any bad blood between Romeo’s mother and Tybalt, considering the history between Grand Duke Montague and Tylbalt.

I thought that the scene where Romeo confronts Mercutio about what he is going, I feel that this will be pretty much the end of any significant screen time that Mercutio has, as the relationship between Mercutio and Romeo could have been more interesting, if Romeo actually killed Mercutio in this adaptation of Romeo X Juliet.

When Emilia and Willy showed up in this episode, I thought that there might be some Emilia X Juliet scenes, though Juliet ends up spending most of the rest of this episode around Cordelia.

My thoughts regarding Cordelia’s and Benvolio’s wedding is that despite it being rushed a little bit, Cordelia and Benvolio did look nice in the costumes that was provide by Willy.

Despite a little bit happening in this episode, this episode was filled with a decent amount of flash backs, so I guess it enabled the quality of this episode, and possibly remaining episodes to be of a highly likely high quality.

Paprika

Satoshi Kon’s Paprika is based on Yastaka Tsutsui’s 1993 novel Paprika, and the story of this film revolves around a female research psychologist, that is involved in a project to develop a device called the DC Mini, that allows users to view and explore the dreams of other people. The DC Mini is stolen soon after the movie starts, and despite this device could be called harmless, the antagonist in this movie, uses this device to bring people into a state in which dreams and reality are indistinguishable, driving them to madness or death.

I for one am a big Satoshi Kon fan, as I have really enjoyed his previous movies work such as Millennium Actress, Tokyo God Fathers, and Perfect Blue. As Madhouse is Satoshi Kon’s studio of choice to animate his movie works, Madhouse I felt have done a astounding job in animating every scene of this movie, as everything from the crazy warped CG backgrounds of a current police case that hunts Mr.Konakawa in this movie, to the lash dark, wired filled and cluttered office of Dr. Tokia.

I’m not going to go on and on about this movie, because despite the plot of this movie not being rather interesting at first, when one sees what world’s that Paprika visit’s in this movie, then one can start to fully appreciate that this movie is fully of imagination, and lot of weirdness.

The music to this movie doesn’t really stand out to me, though I do find that this movie did contain some interesting music pieces, when Paprika dives into other people’s dreams. I also thought the opening theme song of Paprika, was similar and very catchy like Paranoia Agent’s opening theme. While watching this movie I did feel that this movie did contain some elements from Paranoia Agent (split personalities), as Paprika is really Dr. Chiba. I also did feel that Satoshi Kon also borrowed a few elements from Millennium Actress, and also put them in this movie also (Mr.Konakawa playing the part of Tarzan, and also playing a role in an spy action scene). What really made this movie interesting to me was that there was so much imagination and creativity that must have been involved in this movie, that IMO would should just see what anime can be like, when one is willing to create something different, than the typical stand stock family anime movie.

The movie is a bit formulaic, as most of this movie is about Paprika hunting down who has stolen the DC mini, and diving into various people’s minds. As this movie uses a lot of other reference’s from other films in this movie (not going to spoiler the fun), I appreciate Satoshi Kon efforts into trying to not making things not boring, but interesting. As IMO that Satoshi Kon has a dry sense of humor, there is some humor in this movie, though it mainly comes when Mr.Konakawa is involved.

After watching this movie, apart of me wanted to go to sleep, and meet Paprika, the woman of my dreams.

Darker Than Black - Episode Twenty Three

This episode starts off with Hei killing a contractor, but when Hei kills this contractor he doesn’t have any contractor powers, which started off this episode in an inquisitively fashion. As Hei’s sister has been brought up in previous episode’s, but haven’t been followed up upon, this episode fellow’s up on the plot about Hei’s sister (Bai), and how she links with the incident in South America. I thought that the map of the gate in South America really helped me with the plot about what happened in South America, though I felt it could have be shown early, as it would of helped some views with the understanding of this plot element.

As Gai and Kiko (the detectives of the Kurasawa Detective Agency) have been used in some episodes of this show, I was glad to see that these two characters were brought back in this episode, as their role in this episode is to collect one hundred surveys responses for a child’s home work. I thought it was funny that a square eyes mother and son hired Gai and Kiko to pay for their services, thought I thought that the bonus sign that was in the background of the square eyes mother and son hiring Gai and Kiko was funny. Despite Gai and Kiko being hired for a reckless reason, the survey that they have to conduct relates to the stars, which is linked to the contractors.

The main draw card for me in this episode was the Li x Misaki moments in this episode. I thought it was interesting that when Gai and Kiko were at same restaurant that Li and Misaki were at, that Kiko thought that Li liked middle aged woman, and Misaki was upset at Kiko’s comments. I thought that scene were Li and Misaki hit some base balls, was a nice scene, though I thought that the scene where Li says “Isn’t that a wonderful sight”, and Li was talking about the stars, but the camera was focused on Misaki putting her head on a cold can, was a nice little innuendo moment.

I thought it was interesting that Wei came to save Li from a contractor that can manipulate gravity. As Wei came to guide Li to the gate, I thought the scene before this episode ended where Ambers gives members of the E.P.R the part of the meteor fragment, seems that things will be extremely interesting.

I really thought that this episode, up the stakes of this episode, as I would have to agree with Amber in this episode, that when Li was hug Bai in this episode, that they did look like lovers. As this episode showed some Misaki X Li moments and innuendo in this episode, that I betting that this episode may spawn some Misaki X Li fan fiction, and possible some adult manga.

Romeo X Juliet - Episode Twenty

After the events of the previous episode deal with Romeo staring revolt against Grand Duke Montague, this episode starts off with the episode focusing on Romeo, and with his problems of not growing food, in the fields, with the magic seeds that he acquired. I for one was happy to see Romeo failing to deliver on the promise of being a good leader. I thought it was nice of Giovarni to say that it was okay for Romeo to head back to Neo Verona.

As the Capulets have now gained some control of Neo Verona, I thought that it was interesting the scene of where Vittorioo (Benvolio’s father) and mother come to visit Benvolio, as it shows Francisco cunning nature come to the surface. I thought that the scene where Juliet is getting into bed was interesting, as there’s some mark underneath Juliet’s collar bone. I thought that Juliet looked pretty cute in her nighty, though it’s a subjective subject.

I thought that the talk between Juliet and Cordellia was some nice little moment in this episode, as it shows the friendly nature of the two girls, while also showing Cordellia having some influence on Benvolio, in able to transform him into a person that can clean anything now.

I thought that the scene where Grand Duke Montague is holding a parliament meeting about using fire to break the spirits of the people that are helping the Capulet’s, was very interesting. I thought it was pretty good that Grand Duke Montague killed the chairman of the parliament, as it showed that Grand Duke Montague is using fear tactics to get his way.

I thought that the scene where Grand Duke Montague shows Romeo Escalus was interesting, as Romeo now stands that Juliet is need as a sacrifice to help save Neo Verona. I was very surprised to see that the end of the episode that Ophellia (keeper of Escalus) had tree trunk like scalely skin, as Ophellia comes cross as some sort of goodness, I would have thought that she would have been a goodness (like Belldandy), though it was a nice surprise.

Anime & Rose of Versailles 19 Sep 2007 04:41 am

Rose of Versailles - Episode Eleven

This episode of Rose of Versailles overall is a bit slower paced then some of the previous episodes before this, though this episode does give a fair bit insight Marie Antoinette. As Marie Antoinette is now queen of France, she still acts her childish impulses, and plays some games with some people in the court, about wanting certain positions in the court.

I thought that the sword fighting sequence that occurs between Oscar and Andre was pretty, impressive, as this scene yet again showed of Oscar’s skill with the sword. I think that the main reason why Oscar received a promotion from Marie Antoinette to be High Commander of the royal guards is mainly due to Marie Antoinette having a strong liking towards Oscar. I did think that Oscar looked really beautiful in her full uniform, when the camera paned on Oscar in her full High Commander uniform.

The main plot of this episode is about Marie Antoinette not performing her duties as the queen of France, and spending time with Fersen. I thought that Oscar picking up on Marie’s faults in the episode showed and reconfirmed Oscar’s values and duty, while also showing the difference between the two characters. While Marine Antoinette doesn’t attend her duties as a queen, Oscar crosses paths with Duke Ge Guemnenee, and from the way that he interacted with Oscar, that the pair will be at cross roads with each other.

I thought that it was interesting that it was pretty extreme that Duke Ge Guemnenee would shot a child (Pierre) in the back, for stealing some money, due to going hungry due to the king’s poor management of the country. I thought that it was a interesting touch that Rosalie was used in this episode when Pierre died, as it seems that Rosalie will be used in future episodes.

When Fersen left Marie Antoinette in this episode, IMO it was pretty obvious that Marie Antoinette is in love with Fersen, though she can’t say in words. I didn’t really think that this episode was practically interesting, though hopefully that the next episode will be more interesting than this one.

Anime & Glass Fleet 17 Sep 2007 09:11 pm

Glass Fleet - Episode Twenty Four

After a long haul, the final episode of Glass Fleet is here and it was fairly interesting. As this is the last episode of the series, there was no opening scene, though I did think that the liquid CG sequence of the symbol of the royal family was quite good. The episode starts off with the pope being necked and Rachel making a speech to her followers that she is now the 217th Pope, and that they will be heading towards the black cross. After Rachel’s speech Vetti assumes command o his fleet, though I would have liked to know what happened to the people charging for him, as the previous episode ended with the pope’s followers going after Vett.

When Creo’s glass ship is fighting Vetti’s fleet, I thought it was interesting and a nice touch that Creo used Captain’s Gawen tactic to get some of Vetti’s fleet to fire against their team-mates, and thus reducing their workload. As some people may be wondering what Michel is going in this big battle, well Michel is commanding Captain Gawen’s old, slow battleship. I for one would have liked prior notice of Michel taking command of old ship of the royal family, as it would enable the viewer to know more what’s going on in the show, then being left in the dark a little bit. As the prisoners that helped Creo escape earlier on in the show from the garbage dump planet are reduced having meaningless deaths in the series, the two remaining prisoners (Gary and Nordian) take control of Michel’s ship (after Michel has abandoned it), and does a kamikaze with it, taking out one of Vetti’s bigger ships. As no prisoners that helped Creo and Emille survived in the series, I for one would have liked at least a little bit of time dedicated to them telling Creo or anybody in the series their name, so the viewer knows how they are, instead of going nameless for most of their air time.

I thought that the background music for this episode was really good, though I wonder why that this episode only have good background music, while it remained pretty minimal for the other episodes. I thought that the fight that occurs between Vetti and Cleo about half through this episode, was really good, as I would have to say that the swording that occured between the two was well thought out. I didn’t really understand what happened to the galaxy and how it formed into the symbol of the royal family I think, with the glass ship being I think the centre of it, so I won’t touch this plot element.

After the big battle is over, it seems that Michel is now in charge, though I did wonder how Vetti’s hair colour turned back to blonde after the big battle. As I didn’t really understand some of this episode, it seemed that this episode wrapped up the series nicely IMO.

As a whole I really can’t compare Glass Fleet and Solty Rei if somebody asked me to, because I haven’t seen Solty Rei, but it was interesting to see Gonzo do collaboration with another studio. As Gonzo and studio Satelight have a tone of experience doing 3DCG, I came with the expectation that if CG was used in the series that it would be of high quality (due to having heaps of experience from projects such as Macross Zero, Aquarion, Arjuna, HeatGuy J, Last Exile, Vandred and Yukakize), though the CG that was used in the show seemed to come out a bit second rate. I thought Okama’s character designs on the whole were interesting, though I can see why people may dislike the character designs of some characters, as some characters design, were a bit extravagant. I felt that at times this series suffered the animation problems that Speed Grapher suffered, with some scenes and episodes being either high or low quality. I felt that the music of the show was mainly there to support the scenes, though I thought that the opening theme song was pretty bad. I thought that Glass Fleet tried to do something different with the space drama genre, though in the end it had mixed results.

Despite myself probably being the only person blogging this show, I would have to say I didn’t mind watching this show, despite some parts of this show needing some polish.

Darker Than Black - Episode Twenty Two

As Mao’s reaction from near the end of the previous episodes were interesting, I thought that the expressions of Mao’s face at the start of this episode were again similar to the previous episode, where November 11 talks about contractors making the logical decisions. I thought that the scene where Brita, Wei, November 11 and Amber are all taking was interesting, and seeing Moa in Amber’s lap was pretty cute IMO. I also thought it was interesting seeing that Dr. Schroeder was the only human, when sitting with the other five contractors.

I thought that the little cameo appearance of April and February in this episode gave a little bit more of their personality, despite them being reduced to background characters I this episode. I thought that the scene where Wei managers to use his contractors powers to make Hei look like a terminator (can see his entire left eye due to Wei) was really cool, as Hei looked really intimidating. As November 11 seemed to get on well with Misaki in the previous episode, I would have liked that this episode dwelled a little into if Misaka or November 11 had feelings for the other, like April suggested, in this episode.

As it seems that November 11 boss is in cahoots with the syndicate, I can’t really judge at the moment if Amber’s renegade group is entirely evil, though it seems that the meteor fragment that Amber has acquired, might play some part in the episodes to come. I was pretty happy with this episode, though I would have liked to know if Brita and November 11 had some relationship going on, as in the previous episode, November 11 didn’t put much of a fight to join Amber’s group. I still think that November 11 and Brita make a good couple.

Glass Fleet - Episode Twenty Three

As the previous episode of Glass Fleet had Vetti and Creo barely escape form the old glass ship, the results of that incident had a fairly interestingly result on Vetti. I thought it was interesting to see Vetti’s hair colour change from blonde to silver/grey, but after watching him through the course of this episode, the hair colour change really stood out, and that I found that IMO it didn’t suit Vetti. While Vetti is preparing his glass fleet to attack B.B and the rebellion, Eimelle and Norbi develop their relationship more, with Eimelle conceding to Michel.

I for one would have liked to see more talking of the various territory lords talking at B.B’s place in this episode with Michel and B.B, as IMO it would have been nice to hear why they defected against Vetti. As the final upcoming battle is in the stage of preparation, I thought it was interesting that Silua and Hizack become friendly with each other, though I should have guessed that they many have been paired with each other, as Hizack offered to help Silua with the dishes, when Creo’s crew first boarded Michel’s ship.

I thought the little bit of time of this episode what was dedicated to Michel X Creo showed how Michel cares for Cleo, though I though it was interesting that Jean asked Cleo that he can only turn Michel back into Lacine. I thought that the speech that Michel gave before the upcoming battle was good, though I thought it was a little fun that B.B was listening to Michel’s speech while sitting on a lounge, and smoking a pipe.

I thought that the fight that occurs Cleo’s glass ship and the fleet of glass ship that Vetti manufactured was pretty good, as it showed the difference of class between the glass ships. I thought it was interesting that Rachel ended up killing her father in this episode and freeing Vetti from the dungeon that he held the Pope in, though I was really impressed with the pope’s followers out muscling the Pope’s guards at the end of this episode, as it felt a bit staged to me.

I thought that there was a mix of good and bad elements in this episode, though it will be interesting to see if the last episode can wrap up this series nicely.
