Romeo X Juliet - Episode Six

This episode of Romeo X Juliet continues last week’s cliff hanger ending, with one of the guards letting go of an arrow at the Red Whirlwind. After the guard had let go of the arrow without any orders to take down the Red Whirlwind, I thought that this action may have started some form of resistance from the crowd, but nothing came about of this action.

After a tense moment has passed by, Lord Cerimon releases the false Red Whirlwind. After the false Red Whirlwind’s have been reunited with their families, the Red Whirlwind gives a noble speech to the people about not giving up hope. After the doctor has said his speech, he uses the stray fire arrow, to light the bottom of the stage, and thus burns himself to death.

As the death of the Red Whirlwind has caused the town to be in turmoil, Romeo’s father decides to deal with the aftermath, in an interesting way. At the council meeting that Grand Duke Montague calls, Duke Montague passes 2 motions. The first motion that is passed, is that the Grand Duke wants to grant an independent authority to Carabinieri, in regarding to arresting and punishing citizens involved in uprising. Also the second motion that the Grand Duke Montague lets the council pass, is that a militia group may be formed (that is under the Carabinieri authority) has the power to search out restless elements themselves. Besides these two laws are passed with no problems in the council, Benvolio’s father speaks up about these laws being unfair. As a result of Benvolio’s father speaking up to the Duke Montague, Duke Montague wishes to pass a motion to strip the house of Vittorio de Fresco Baldino of their noble status, which is passed successfully.

I thought that it was interesting to see how a family could be stripped of their noble status, though it will be interesting to see how Romeo will interact in the palace without Benvolio at his side. Anyway hopefully this will make room for Mercuito and Romeo to develop their relationship.

After the council meeting scene in this episode, I thought that the scene where some women throw flowers at Francisco, and Curio getting a little irritated at Francisco being flightily was a little light hearted moment, in this plot driven episode. I thought that this episode ended on a good note with Tybalt being his entrance at the end of this episode, as he, Juliet, Curio and Francisco try to stop some guards from killing Benvolio and his family.

Death Note - Episode Thirty One

This episode of Death Note covers 80-83 of the manga of Death Note, and I for didn’t think that the scene where the SPK and Moji escape from the building, isn’t as interesting and tense as the manga version. As Kira’s self declared spokesperson has Kira loyalists attacking the SPK headquarters, I thought that Light may have opted to kill the SPK by getting the president of the USA to obtain all the SPK members names, and then simply kill them off, then dragging out the battle of wits, with Near.

I thought the manga version of these chapters were better than the anime version, as after the attack on the SPK headquarters Near gets Mogi on his side, as Near tells Light that Mogi that he has died of a heart attack, to get Awaza to think that Light is Kira. As this episode is entitled Transfer, the title of this episode is a little hint of what occurs in this episode, in regards to the ownership of the Death Note.

As there is now only one death note, Light asks Misa to give up the death note and transfer the ownership of the death note to Mikami Teru. I thought the sequence where Mikami kills the people on the Kira Kingdom TV show was cool, and I personally like how Mikami says eliminate, before he kills someone in the death note.

Overall, I thought that this episode of death note was pretty good, though the majority of chapter 82 of the manga was left out (where Near and Awaza discuss the 13 day rule, and what happened in the investigation when L was around).

Romeo X Juliet - Episode Five

As the previous episode of Romeo X Juliet revolved around Romeo discovering that Juliet does hide her true self, by disguising herself as a boy, this episode continues with the previous episodes plot, and adds some nice interesting elements about the local authority wanting to capture the Red Whirlwind.

The main plot of this episode is about the local authority using the means of starvation, and offering food as a reward for anybody that has any information that may lead to the capture of the Red Whirlwind. While Juliet is busy with her date with Romeo, I thought that the scene where William confronts Juliet about having a splendid love was a nice little moment, in this darker themed episode.

As this episode played out, it seems that Juliet, Cordelia, Antonia, Curio, and Francisco seem not to be on the right wave length if that they want to take revenge on the Montague’s, because Juliet wants to help the fake captured Red Whirlwind people, while Curio, and Franciso just watch from the shadows, understanding what is need to achieve that goal. It seems to me that Curio, Franciso and Conard seem to understand what they up against (mostly likely due to fighting the Montague’s), while Juliet is still coming to terms of how she is involved , and that this episode serves as a little lesson of what Juliet must endure, to take revenge on the Montague’s.

As I thought that the doctor that Juliet went to receive medical assistance would just be a side character in this series, I liked how the doctor got some screen time in this episode, and how he learned that the Friar of all people, are willing to turn people in as the Red Whirlwind, just to survive. I thought it was pretty brave of the doctor to dress up as the Red Whirl Wind, and take Juliet’s place, though I thought that the scene where the doctor is watching his younger daughter’s sleep, and then giving his wife a final goodbye message, added some character development to the doctor donning the Red Whirlwind costume, then just having him putting on the Red Whirlwind costume, and skipping this scene.

Overall, I thought that this episode was really good, and it’s good to see some darker elements come to the front in this episode, though I’m hoping that this won’t be a one off, as I would like to see some more darker elements come up during the course of this show, as it would make watching this show more interesting to watch.

Darker Than Black - Episode Six

As the previous episode of Darker than Black had Hei asking Havoc about where his sister is, it seems that Havoc had meet Hei’s sister along with some other people (most likely contracts also) in South America. As Havoc has a fairly light body structure, I didn’t think that Hei would torture Havoc, while she was tired up. After Hei has given up of getting information from Havoc, I thought that the scene where Hei is cooking a meal from himself, and then feeds Havoc (Havoc can’t feed herself due to Hei breaking one of Havoc’s fingers) showed that Hei’s personality drifts from cold to cruel, to kind and nice.

I thought that the flashback sequence that Havoc had in this episode about cooking for others, showed that Havoc isn’t completely a bad person, in the past. As this episode progressed, I found it interesting that Hei is referred to as BK201, as it seems that contractors are referred to by some coding system. The plot of this episode revolves around Hei bringing Havoc near Hell’s Gate, and that Havoc regaining her contractor powers. Before Hei brings Havoc near Hell’s Gate, Havoc asks Hei that if she regains her powers, he wants Hei to kill her. After Havoc gets her powers back, Havoc is killed by one of the MI-6 agents.

I thought that occurs between Hei and November 11 played out in interesting fashion, as that November counted Hei’s electro attack, by wearing non-conducting electric boots. After it seems that November 11 has got the advantage over Hei, Hei is saved from November 11, by one of his other work colleagues interfering in the battle.

Overall, I thought that this episode was pretty good, though I wouldn’t had mind to know a little more about the relationship that Havoc had with Hei’s sister, and where or not that she is a contractor or not. I thought that the last scene of this episode was interesting, as it seems that the British Secret Intelligent Service is interested in the organization that Hei is working for (and mostly likely will feature in more future episodes).

Darker Than Black - Episode Five

As the last story arc of Darker than Black introduced how a contractor is born, I thought that this episode showcased another darker side of the world of contractors. I thought that the opening scene involving April, November 11, and July, showed just how violent and scared normal human beings are of contractors.

This episode of Darker than Black is focused on the most violet contractor that has walked the earth, Havoc. During this episode, it is revealed that Havoc has lost her contractor powers, which her power is to create a vacuum.

What I liked about this episode, is the bluff that the 3 MI-6 agents pull on Takahara, and the CIA to see how much information would been leaked about an organization attacking the helicopter that Havoc is supposedly being transported in. I found it interesting that Hei is referred to as the black reaper in this episode, before fights November 11 in this episode. I thought it was good to hear Havoc’s real name near the episode of this episode, thought the bit about Hei having a sister really got my attention near the end of this episode.

Overall, I thought that this episode showcased another shade of black, of how cruel and cold the contractor’s lives can be, with Havoc being introduced in this episode.

Death Note - Episode Thirty

As the previous episode of Death Note had Yagami senior die in the previous episode, I felt really sorry Light’s mother, when she appeared in this episode, as Mr’s Yagami strikes a similar pose to Maki (Ray Penbar’s fiancé) when Ray died in episode five. As Light has now eliminated the obstacle of Shidoh, at the price of a valuable death note, things start again turning Light’s way, with the President of the USA acknowleding Kira.

As Death Note has had some fan service in the show, I thought that the shower tease of the blonde female agent that is apart of the SPK, was pretty IMO. As the previous episode had Mello seemed to be blown away, Mello returns and points a gun to the blonde beauty that is on Near’s SPK team. A short while later, Near and Mello are united, and Mello tells Near that the death note is real. Mello also tells Near that one needs to touch the death note, to see the death god. While Mello is with Near, Mello asks for the picture that Near has of him. I thought it was interesting that Mello has a scar or burn marks from the incident in the previous episode, though I won’t have minded to see how Mello survived the explosion, from the previous episode.

I thought that the scene where Near is thinking about the death note and the rules of it, was heavily edited from the source material, as I remember vaguely that when I was reading the manga that this scene played out in a more interesting fashion. I didn’t like how the episode changed Mello taking the female SPK agent hostage, and then waking straight to where Near is. I thought the manga played this scene in more interesting fashion because Mello and the female SPK agent talk about the case, and that the female SPK agent reveals to Mello that Near suspects that the second L is Kira.

Despite this episode basically covering the manga chapter’s 76 – 79; I really would have liked to see the part in chapter 79 where Mogi meets Near. I thought that this episode played about quite well, but I felt that this episode left out so much other source material, that wished that the conversion ratio per manga chapter per episode, was lower then skipping over the more lengthy dialogue and unimportant scenes of the manga source material.

Death Note - Episode Twenty Nine

As the previous episode of Death Note had Shidoh (a death God) to retrieve the Death Note that Ryuk had stolen, this episode is mainly about the interference that Shidoh provides to make the situation between Light and Mello even messier.

I thought that episode was really good as being a fan of the SWAT pc game; I liked how members of L’s investigation team were dressed in assault gear, and ready to take down Mello’s crew. I thought that the scene where members of Mello’s crew touch the Death Note and get scared, and then try to shoot Shidoh, was funny, because it was a typical reaction, but I thought that it was directed well, with the camera showing all of the reaction’s of Mello’s crew, when the freaked out, when seeing Shidoh for the first time.

I thought that the assault on Mello’s headquarters played out in brutal realistic fashion, though I liked Mello’s reaction when Yagami senior spelled out Mello’s real name, in front of him. I thought the death of Yagami senior was directed well, though as Death Note is coming closer to the end of it’s episode run, Ryuk’s comments will be important, as I liked how Ryuk said that Yagami senior died happily, because he didn’t use the death note, but it looks like the Light’s run being ‘God’ are slowly running out.

Overall, I really liked how this episode played out, and I thought that the red eye effect of when Chief Yagami had the shagami eyes was really cool. I would liked to see the exchange when Yagami senior made the deal for shagami eyes, because I believe seeing the deal being made, would have added something extra, to this good episode.

Darker Than Black - Episode Four

As the previous episode of Darker than Black introduced Mai’s story, of dealing with troubles of being a Contractor, this episode concludes Mai’s tale. As Darker than Black is a show that relies of mood, and atmosphere to get across the story of this show, I was surprised how graphic this episode played out. I was surprised a little of the graphic nature of this episode, because it very rare for a show to display characters being burned (Yuka and her father), and a contractor being able to cut people with an invisible piece of string.

Despite this episode being graphic, I thought that the scene where Kirahara visits Dr.Ishizaki at the Astronomy Office of the National Security Office was an interesting scene to me, because it looks like to me that Dr.Ishizaki is one of her girl friends. I thought that the way that Kirahara and Dr.Ishizaki interacted with one another was interesting, and that I wouldn’t mind a little of time dedicated to how they became friends.

While Kirahara is with Dr. Ishizaki in this episode, I thought that the explanation that Dr.Ishizaki gave of what is happening with Mai, did a decent job of explaining about what is happening with Mai. As Darker than Black has different contracts appear in different stories in Darker than Black, I thought that the explanation about the company Myer & Hilton inbreeding contractors, was an interesting little piece of information that I found interesting about this episode.

I thought that the ending of this episode was really interesting, as it turned into a little bloodbath between Mai’s father, Mai, Hei, and the contractors from the Myer & Hilton company. Overall, I thought that this episode was really god, as I did feel sorry for Mai not being able to control her powers, and how graphic this episode became.

Glass Fleet - Episode Seven

As the previous episode was frustrating for me to watch, I thought that this episode of Glass Fleet gave a decent insight of Michel and her family background. As most of this episode is dedicated to Michel and her family, Vettai is given a brief appearance in this episode, where he is meeting Rachael.

As the previous episode of Glass Fleet forced Michel to make a tough decision, to either save Creo or her brother, the episode starts off with Michel and Creo crew, landing on planet that is sided with Michel. While on this planet, Michel is very welcome, and Michel asks for that Creo and his crew are given the same treatment, due to saving Michel from Vettai. After Creo’s crew are out enjoying themselves in a bar, Eimelle decides to fetch Michel, and at the same time Creo wants to talk to Michel. As Creo and Eimelle both want to talk to Michel, Michel is busy having a shower and Eimelle mangers to crash through the ceiling that Michel is showering in. I was pretty surprised to find out that Michel is actually a woman in this episode, as my first impression of Michel was that she was a he.

After Michel has put some clothes on, Michel tells crew and his crew of how she decided to become her brother, Michel Volban. I was happy to learn that Michel’s real name is Lacire Blanc Volban, as getting some background on a character is also interesting to me. Michel tells Creo and his crew that when she was young she would dress normally as a girl, but due to her brother’s influence she become interested in swordsmanship. I thought that the image a young Lacire and Michel duelling one another was cute, though I thought seeing Lacire in dresses, that she does look pretty good them.

As Lacire liked swordsmanship, she became better then her brother Michel, but she father asked Lacire to stop acting as a boy, and Lacire complied. Michel meet Vettai in a tournament that would decide who is the strongest swordsman in the galaxy, and this is where Michel received an X shaped mark on his back. Vettai ended up winning this tournament due to making the most effective strikes in the given time limit. After the battle Vettai started his campaign to be ruler of the galaxy. Michel and her father went against Vettai’s forces and Michel’s father last saw Michel going into Vettai’s ship. After Lacire’s father tells what happened to Michel, he dies.

I thought it was pretty interesting to see Lacire to decided to become her brother, and it was interesting to see that Jean gave Lacire a X shaped on her back, as proof that she is her brother Michel. I thought that the episode on an interesting note, with it seeming that that the house that Michel and Creo and co are in, coming under attack.

As I felt that the previous of Glass Fleet skipped a lot of background about the real Michel, I thought that this episode was pretty good, but the only thing I had an issue with, was the sinking of the Glass ship (is 3D CGed) landing on the planet’s water in this episode (is 2D dawn), looked a bit jarring.

Death Note - Episode Twenty Eight

This episode of Death Note deals with the successful exchange of a death note, for Sayu Yagmi. As this episode is mainly dedicated to the exchange of Sayu Yagami, I thought that this episode was really tense, as no matter how hard Light tries to learn of Mello’s follower’s location, Mello plan is just so air tight, that Yagami can’t do anything about the exchange.

As Azawa in this episode was given the job to follow chief Yagami at the airport, I thought that Azawa’s hair cut looks okay. I thought that the ending of this episode where Near asks for Light’s help in this episode, was interesting. It will be interesting to see if Light and Near will play the same game with each other, like that L and Light did earlier on in the series. I thought that the episode end with an interesting note with a death god asked to retrieve Ryuk’s death note.

Overall, I thought was really interesting as that there was twists and turns around every corner.
