Still Alive and Well
As I was forced to stop blogging for a little period due to having computer problems, I just would like to say that my computer problems are over now, and updates will be coming shortly. I have heard that the first DVD release of Kurau is slated for the 10/04/2007, and as my birthday falls on the 9th of april, Volume 1 of Kurau will be a nice birthday present for myself. I hope ADV tries to market Kurau as a mature themed show like Le Chevailer D’Eon, and not some sterotypical action themed show. As I’m probably the only person blogging Kurau, and that I haven’t reviewed a episode of Kurau for some time, I will use this weeks break to blog as many episodes of Kurau that I possibly can, during this weeks break of sorts of current anime shows currently airing in Japan.

Christmas Banner and misc details
With Christmas now a few days away, I have changed my banner to show my Christmas spirit. The Christmas banner image is from Tsubasu Chronicles, and I did a quick cut and crop job to produce this banner. I also would like to say this may be my last entry for the year, due to I’m having problems with my computer at home. The problem will be sorted out by the start of the new year, so if this is my last entry (I hope not), I would like to say Merry Christmas, and happy new year to everybody.
I also would like to say a big thank you to everybody who has contributed to the anime community this year, and your contribution is greatly apprecaited. As it’s Christmas, I have put up a Christmas picture of Tohru Honda from Fruits basket, for your viewing pleasure.

Anime & Code Geass:Hangyaku no Lelouch 20 Dec 2006 07:35 pm
Code Geass:Hangyaku no Lelouch - Episode Ten
As the previous episode of Code Geass focused on Kallen, this episode focuses on the trump card that the order of the black knights has acquired, the Crimson Lotus MK II. The best description of the Crimson Lotus MK II that I can provide, is that I found its design a combination of the design of Lancelot and Evangelion unit 02, but with the Crimson Lotus MK II having the claw design of the claw man from Gun Sword, on it’s right arm. While I am happy that that Kallen now has a mecha to battle against Britannia, the only reason that I can come up with why the control cockpit of the Crimson Lotus MK II is designed like a motorbike, is to provide fan service.
The opening scene of this episode starts of with Lelouch looking through for applicants to join the order of the black knights, while C.C is swimming in the pool. As Lelouch is looking at Diethard Ried profile on his laptop, the scene shifts to where Diethard Ried is working at Hi TV, were he is seen talking to Jereimah and Villetta. During this scene, Jereimah gives Ried a clue to Ried, that Zero may be among the male student population at Ashord Academy. While Jereimah, Villetta and Ried sort out what they plan to do next, Zero gives his fellow black knights troops and Kallen new mecha’s to fight against Britannia. Upon the order of the black knight getting wind of some information sent from Britannia to lure them out, Zero decides to go hiking in the Narita Mountains, to combat the Britannia Army, while also testing out the new mecha that they have acquired.
Before the fight between the order of the black knights and Britannia occurs in this episode, I thought that the way Lelouch made his fellow black knight followers embrace him as their leader, was a masterstroke. Lelouch was able to grasp his fellow black knight loyalty and trust in this episode, as the order of the black nights were outnumbered in this battle, Lelouch offered any member of the order of the black knight the title to be leader of the group, and lead the group to victory against Cornelia. Lelouch asked the black knight group if that any of them think that they can lead the black knight group to victory in this battle, and as there was no takers, Lelouch was able to gain unquestionable loyalty from his fellow black knight followers.
I thought that the battle the occurs the order of the black knights, the Japanese Liberation front and Britannia, played out in exciting fashion, as yet again we are treated to a quick and efficient massacre of some Japanese Liberation members and order of black knight troops, by Cornelia in her personal unit. I thought that the plan that Lelouch comes up with, by using the Crimson Lotus MK II to use its radiation wave to cause a mountain slide was a good move, as the plan will get rid of some of the enemy without wasting ammunition, while also gaining the element of surprise in this battle.
I thought that the key action scene in this episode, where Kallen uses her Crimson Lotus MK II to destroy part of Jereimah’s unit using the radiation wave, was a well choreographed and animated scene. Despite this episode being an episode to showcase the Crimson Lotus MK II, I thought that the scene where Zero calls Jeremiah orange-kun was simply brilliant, as Jeremiah’s reaction to Zero’s taunt was priceless.
Overall I thought this was good episode, as it showcased the abilities of the Crimson Lotus MK II well. While this episode played out, I was mainly interested in what the three scientists where up to in this episode, as they were discussing details about code R’s test data. I’m was really interested in this small yet brief scene, because so far C.C is a complete mystery, and I’m sure this plot element will shed some light on C.C past and/or abilities.
With the plot elements of Code Geass moving forward in this episode, and with a hint in this episode, that details about C.C will be revealed in the near future, I’m eagerly waiting to see what will occur in future episodes of Code Geass.

Anime & Tsukikage Ran 20 Dec 2006 07:34 pm
Tsukikage Ran - Episode Three
As the previous episode of Tsukikage Ran started off with Tsukikage Ran, this episode starts off with Meow waiting at a restaurant, for her order of shiruko. When Meow checks on her order of shiruko, Meow sees something near her shiruko, and upon inspecting the mysterious object, Meow realizes that somebody has left their baby next to her order of shiruko.
As Meow now has unexpectedly has got herself in a mess, Meow decides to drop the baby off at the police station, to get rid of the baby. As Meow is dropping the baby off at the police station, her conscience gets the best of her, and Meow decides to look after the baby for the time being. After Meow decides to look after the baby, she is soon found by Tsukikage Ran.
I thought that the scene that occurs between Tsukikage Ran and Meow, where they are teasing each other, I found particularly funny. I liked how Meow teased Tsukikage Ran by saying that it’s cold woman like Ran that have no blood or tears, are the type of people that abandon babies. After the pair tease one another, Tsukikage Ran decides the best course of action is to stay in a lodge, as it will give them the best place to look after the baby.
After Tsukikage Ran and Meow decided to stay at the travel lodge Suzuya, Meow decides to name the baby Mametaro. While Tsukikage Ran is changing the baby, Ran notices a family crest on one on the baby’s nappy. After Mametaro’s nappy is changed, we get some baby antics with Meow, as she makes some faces to stop the baby from crying. After Meow and Mametaro fall asleep, Tsukikage Ran decides to investigate the family crest that she noticed earlier on the baby’s nappy. Upon Tsukikage Ran investigating the family crest that she saw earlier on the baby’s nappy, Tsukikage Ran is attacked by three samurai’s. Despite Tsukikage Ran being outnumbered three to one, Tsukikage Ran quickly takes care of this little obstacle.
After Tsukikage Ran battles the three mysterious samurai’s, Tsukikage Ran decides to leave Meow and the baby by themselves, so she can discover the truth behind her being attacked. Upon Tsukikage Ran asking a person on the street about the family crest that is on the nappy, Tsukikage Ran learns the truth about Meow’s baby. It is revealed that the baby that Meow has acquired is from the Matsuzaka household. Also the person that Tsukikage Ran is talks to mentions that Lady Oyu planned the baby’s disappearance.
Upon getting a look inside the residence of the Matsuzaka household, we learn that a maid took Tamachiyo, which she was ordered to do so, by Madam Matsuzuka. The rest of this episode deals with Tsukikage Ran and Meow stopping Lady Oyu’s plan to get rid of Tamachiyo, by getting Beninosuke to kill Tamciyo. After Tsukikage Ran and Meow reveals Lady Oyu’s plan to the dimwitted master of the house, Tsukikage Ran and Meow continue their journey, where the wind carries them.
I found this episode of Tsukikage Ran to be quite good then the previous episodes of Tsukikage Ran, as I found the humor in this episode quite funny. Even though some jokes in this episode are stereotypical baby jokes, I thought that the majority of the humor in this episode was well executed. I also thought that the little message that Meow mutters to the father of Tamachiyo, about a parent’s duty is to protect their children, was a nice little message to end this episode on.

Anime & Kurau:Phantom Memory 18 Dec 2006 07:42 pm
Kurau Phantom Memory - Episode Fifteen
This episode of Kurau Phantom Memory simply below me away, as this episode of Kurau, is full of drama, characterization and a little action.
The episode starts off were the previous episode left off, with Christmas being, shocked and surprised by Yvon’s sudden appearance and comments. With Christmas not knowing how to react to this sudden questioning by Yvon, Christmas decides to run to where Kurau is, where she is currently doing some security work at a festival. To get to festival that were Kurau is working, Christmas hops on a bus. Upon Christmas entering the bus, I enjoyed Christmas cute reaction when she misidentifies the bus conductor being a GPO officer. Christmas reaction upon seeing the “GPO officer” is that Christmas swings her hands by her side in marching type fashion, until she takes her seat on the bus. Despite Christmas thinking that she has gotten away from Yvon by hoping onto a bus, Christmas is shocked to see the rynax possesed boy standing in front of the road, and then getting hit by the bus.
As the driver of the bus is thinking that he has ran over Yvon, Yvon uses his powers to pass through the front of the bus. Upon seeing Yvon pass through the engine and front window of the bus, I was in awe of how well done the scene looked, as it sort of looked like the famous scene in Terminator 2, when T1000 passes through the prison bars.
Upon Yvon passing through the front of the bus, Yvon then breaks the bus conductor’s wrist, before then vapouring him into nothingness. After Yvon vaporises the bus conductor, Christmas exits the bus, and runs the rest of the way to where Kurau is. While Yvon is busy chasing Christmas in this episode, I enjoyed the scene in this episode, where the episode focuses a little on Ayaka, and Inspector Wong.
In GPO headquarters, the scene between the pair starts off with Inspector Wong busy signing some documents and agent Ayaka approaches Inspector Wong’s desk. Upon Ayaka approaching Inspector Wong’s desk, Ayaka offers Inspector Wong a chocolate bar to restore his glucose levels, due to the amount of papers that Inspector Wong has work through. I enjoyed how Inspector Wong was able to counter agent Ayaka’s offering of the chocolate bar, by producing a bundle of chocolate bars from his office drawer. Upon Ayaka seeing Inspector Wong’s counter to her offer of the chocolate bar, agent Ayaka smiles to Agent Wong, due to Inspector Wong has already prepared himself to restore his glucose levels. I never would have thought that we’d see Ayaka smile so cutely in this episode, as Ayaka is portrayed as a cold individual that goes about her work in a professional manner. After this scene between Ayaka and Inspector Wong, Inspector Wong is summoned by Chief Commissioner Brightman to meet him in his office.
Upon Agent Wong being summoned to Chief’s Comissioner Brightman’s office, I was simply again blown away by the flawless ingration of CG that is used in this scene, when Chief’s Comissoner’s Brighton’s reveals his office to Inspector Wong. Upon Agent Wong entering the Chief Commissioner’s office, if any of you remember the block patter effect that was used in Rahxephon, when Ayato is looking around to see in the Rahxephon unit, this effect is used when inspector Wong enters the chief commissioner’s office. After this CG effect, we are yet again treated to another well integrated CG effect in this episode, when chief commissioner Brightman displays the CG profile of the rynax possesed boy, Yvon.
It is here we get the some juicy details that the GPO has been experimenting with ryanx energy, to create rynaxsapiens. We also learn here that Yvon has had a chip implanted in his brain, so his movements can be monitored. Upon tracking Yvon’s movements, we learn that Yvon last reading told the GPO that he is in Swizerland, and Inspector Wong is being sent there to capture Yvon. Inspector Wong is given this case, due to him having experience tracking down rynaxsapiens in the past (i.e. Kurau). While chief commissioner Brightman is explaining Inspector Wong’s mission to him, Inspector Wong is piecing this information that Chief Commissioner is telling him, of how it relates to Ichize Chiu getting his body infected by rynax’s. After Inspector Wong is given his orders, I liked how Inspector Wong takes out his frustration of being left out of the loop, by taking out his frustration and anger on his paperwork, by slapping down a pile of his paperwork to the floor.
When Christmas eventually meets up with Kurau at the festival, there is a short reunion between the two. Upon Yvon soon catching up to Christmas and Kurau, and Yvon still wanting Christmas to be his pair, a battle between Kurau and Yvon occurs. As the battle between Kurau and Yvon is the first rynax vs. rynax battle in this series, I was simply blown away of how well the battle between the two is played out, as it must have been time consuming for the production staff to layout and arrange the phasing that occurs when Kurau and Yvon battle one another, or when the environment around them is destroyed during their fight.
After Yvon overpowers Kurau in the battle, I enjoyed the slower purposefully movement of Yvon, as he is slowly coming out of the river, with a gun in his hand, ready to kill Kurau. When Yvon is pointing the gun at Kurau, I thought that what occurred from here onwards was simply A+ material, as one can’t help but feel sorry for Yvon, despite him doing some bad acts in this episode.
This episode of Kurau Phantom Memory was simply brilliant, and seeing this episode makes be happy that I decided to watch this show, as I would have missed out on watching some great anime moments.

Anime & Death Note 17 Dec 2006 08:00 pm
Death Note - Episode Eleven
With the director of the news segment of Sakura TV getting his hands on the 4 tapes that Kira has sent to the station, this episode shows the chain of events that leads to the director of the news segment of Sakura TV, playing the tapes that Kira has sent to the TV station.
As Sakura TV plays the tapes that were sent to the station by Kira, Mr Komaizumi Seji and Mr. Hibima Kazuhiko are the two sacrifices that are used to show the audience that the person that sent in the messages is indeed Kira, and not some fake person pretending to be Kira. After witnessing the two deaths on TV, Ukita-san heads out to the TV station to stop the broadcast. As the front door of Sakura TV is lock, Ukita tries to force open the front door, by shooting it with his gun. As Ukita is about to shoot, Ukita dies of a heart attack.
Upon Sakura TV broadcasting the dead body of Ukita-san, L and the other members of the investigation team are filled with shock, and anger, as L concludes from Ukita’s death, that Kira can now kill people, just by looking at their face. Upon Chief Yagami seeking what is unfolding in front of Sakura TV, he decides to leave the hospital, and stop the TV broadcast by smashing through the front door of Sakura TV with a bus. Chief Yagami also puts a blanket over his head, so that Kira can’t get a look at this face and kill him.
I thought that attention to detail of Chief Yagami’s eyes when he is driving the bus to Sakura TV, and where he is demanding the director of Sakura TV to stop the broadcast, showed the determination that was coursing through his body, to full fill his goal of stoping the TV broadcast. Even though Chief Yagami was able to stop the Sakura TV broadcast of Kira, I felt that Chief’s Yagami sense of loyalty and honour might get the better of him in future episodes, as this case has caused many people to lose their lives already, and this case has caused Chief Yagmi to have a heart attack. I feel that Chief Yagami might be pushing his luck if he doesn’t slow down, as the stakes in this investigation seem to be continually raised higher.
After L analyses the tapes that Chief Yagami has brought back from Sakura TV, L deduces that the Kira that was threatening people, was indeed a second Kira, and not the original Kira that they are chasing after. While the incident involving the Kira tapes are unfolding, Light is simply enjoying recent events have played out. Light is a little worried about the recent events, as if L does mangers to catch the second Kira, it won’t be long before he will be caught, and therefore he can’t sit back and relax. Light decides it’s time to be member of the squad that is investigating the Kira case, so he can find out more information about the second Kira, and possible use the second Kira to his advantage (due to the second Kira possessing the Shinigami’s Eyes).
With the last scene of this episode mainly teasing the viewer about the appearance of Misa, I thought that the conversation that Rem has with Misa was interesting, as that Rem seems to be a Death God that seems to care about the person that is holding her Death Note. While Ryuk on the other hand who is Light’s Death God, seems just to follow Light because he wants to be entertained, and see what trouble Light can cause with the Death Note.
As this episode played out, I thought that they scene where L is managing two cell phones to organise the police barricade around Sakura TV, was very cool. With Misa being slightly introduced in this episode, and with L losing one member of his investigation team in this episode, it looks like future episodes of Death Note will be interesting and complicated, due to the ever rising external circumstances that are surrounding Light, as he keeps possession of the Death Note.

Anime & Tsukikage Ran 17 Dec 2006 05:30 pm
Tsukikage Ran - Episode Two
After the first episode of Tsukikage Ran starting off on a decent note, this episode is dedicated to Ran seeking some good sake, as Ran has some troubles in this episode drinking some good sake. As it is raining, Ran decides to get some sake to warm her body. Tsukikage Ran goes into a bar and asks for a cold, but receives cold water. We learn that sake is banned in this town, and Ran enters a nearby hidden bar, where they serve sake.
Upon Ran entering the secret sake bar, we see that Meow is already in this bar, drunk. Upon Tsukikage Ran saying that the sake that she is served is no good, we meet the villain of this episode, which is the owner of this secret sake serving bar. Upon Tsukikage Ran meeting the owner of this establishment, we get some interesting comments about sake here. The interesting comments that the owner of the establishment makes says that sake is like poison. The owner of the establishment says that the better the sake is, the more that you want to drink, thus becoming poison. The owner of the bar establishment, even says that sake is like devil water.
After Tsukikage Ran refuses to pay her bill of 1 ryo and 2 byu, due to sake being watered down, there’s a short action scene which effectively displays the silky skills that Tsukikage Ran possesses. After the action sequence, Ran bumps into a beer brewer, and the beer brewer spills some sake due to bumping into Tsukikage Ran. Upon Tsukikage Ran bumping into the beer brewer, I thought that the comments that Tsukikage Ran mutters about the spilled sake was interesting, as Tuskikage Ran says that “a drop of sake is like a drop of blood. You will shead one tear for every drop wasted”.
The rest of the episode plays out with Tsukikage Ran and Meow getting rid of the evil beer barons that Tsukikage Ran entered in this episode, due to that they try to find rid of the other beer brewers in the local area.
Overall, I thought that this episode was an interesting episode, due to it focusing on sake being perceived as evil. I thought that this episode’s plot was just an excuse to show the little antics of Tsukikage Ran, of the love of sake that she has. Despite this episode’s plot being rather weak, I thought that the dialogue and actions that Tsukikage Ran displays in this episode, made up for the weak plot of this episode. With Meow not getting much screen time in this episode, I thought that her antics while drunk were funny, even though Meow denies being drunk earlier on in this episode.

Anime & Code Geass:Hangyaku no Lelouch 16 Dec 2006 02:37 am
Code Geass:Hangyaku no Lelouch - Episode Nine
This episode of Code Geass is centred on Kallen Stadfeld, and the circumstances that she is currently in. All that I’m going to say about this episode is that as Kallen Stadfeld is portrayed as perfect model student, she is carrying a skeleton in the closet like other seen perfect anime characters, such as Yuki Sohma (Fruits Basket) and Souichiro Arima (His and Her Circumstances).
As I feel like to try something different with this episodes summary, and with other anime blogs that have already reviewed/summarised this episode, I’m going to take an different approach for reviewing episode, by summarizing the different behaviours that Kallen Stadfeld shows in this episode (I’ve tired to do this as the best I can, with the time frame that I have to review this episode, so there may be some scenes/behaviours that I may have missed).
Kallen Stadfeld Behaviour - Scene
Cute/bushing Kallen - Class room scene
Black Knight Follower/Alter Ego Kallen - Black Knight group robbing some business men of a large amount of money
Angry Karen - Lelouch and Karen park bench scene, When the president of the student council visits Kallen house, and Kallen’s is talking to her “mother” , When student council members are forcing Lelouch to wear a neko cosplay outfit.
Sad Kallen - Kallen beside her mother in hospital
Smiling Kallen - Kallen beside her mother in hospital
Sleepy Kallen - Kallen in her bedroom scene, Kallen sleeping in class scene.
Despite this episode being heavily Kallen focused, I thought that this episode handled the love triangle element of the show between Shirley, Kallen and Lelouch quite well, as both Shirley and Kallen both got further development that one of them might be paired up with Lelouch, by the end of the series.
I thought that the scene with Kallen fighting the night police in his Glasgow was exciting, as the battle between Kallen and the night police officer was realistically played out, as we get to see Kallen’s Glasgow take some heavy punishment from the night policemen’s Glasgow attacks. As Kallen was fighting in her Glasgow against the night policemen’s Glasgow in this episode, I thought the dilemma that faced Lelouch, where he couldn’t use his geass power on the night policemen’s Glasgow, was interesting. As Lelouch’s geass power can’t penetrate through to the pilot of the Glasgow, due to the thickness of the armour. I’m betting that in a future episode of Code Geass, that Lelouch will mostly likely be put in this same situation, but this time there will be something important to him that will be put on the line, instead of Kallen’s mother life being put on the line in this episode.
The only very minor thing I found disapointing with this episode, was that this episode didn’t show Kallen in neko minimode. Despite this episode not showing Kallen in a neko cosplay outfit, hopefully in a future episode of Code Geass, we will get a picture/photograph of all the student council members in their neko cosplay outfits together, when Kallen or another cast member is remembering the fun times that they have had at Ashford Academy.
Overall I found this episode to very enjoyable, due to combining many elements such as action, drama, and plot seemingly well together.

Anime & Gun Sword 16 Dec 2006 02:35 am
Gun Sword - Episode Nine
With the introduction of Cural, I mean Carmen 99 in episode two, I was hoping that we would get an episode dedicated to Carmen 99, and this episode delivers what I was hoping for. The episode begins a mysterious individual in a house carriage travelling to an unknown destination. After the short mysterious opening that this episode started off with, we see Carmen 99 picking up Van, Wendy, Joshua, when she sees them hitchhiking. After Carmen picks up the Van’s travelling group, Carmen 99 decides to head back to her home town. Upon travelling back to Carmen’s 99 hometown, I enjoyed the antics of Van and Joshua that they get up to, as Van is telling Joshua bluntly to get lost.
Upon arriving if the town of Trinolra, when learn lots of interesting things about Carmen’s past, when Carmen meets some of the towns people, that they run into. We also learn some information about Carmen 99, when Carmen is talking to Hayetah in this episode. The interesting bits of information we learn about Carmen 99 is that we learn that Carmen 99 left the town about six years ago, and that Hayetah is her long life childhood friend. We also learn that Carmen and Hayetah used to play in a secret garden were they would play with each other, when they were young. We also learn that upon Carmen’s parents dying, that Hayetah’s father (Findley) took Carmen in, and trained her. Findley and Carmen’s father where business partners, were Carmen’s father would do the work, and Findley would make the tools that Carmen’s father would use for work. Carmen’s father occuption was working as an information broker, and Carmen decided to follow in her father’s footsteps, and became an information broker also. We also learn that Carmen’s family and Hayetah’s family were a little shunned upon by the town folk, due to they were the only one’s in the town using machines for work. As Hayetah wasn’t popular when she was young, we learn now that Hayetah is now quite popular with the townsfolk now. Hayetah is popular now, due to the flowers that she sells is in demand in the town.
While viewing this episode, I started laughing due to seeing Van sitting crossed legged in the small cart, where he’s being pulled along the road by Carmen 99 on her bike. Like the previous episodes of Gun Sword, we also get some Van name calling in this episode, as Van is referred to as “Van the man who sleeps all day”. As this episode started off with a mysterious woman riding in a carriage, this plot element reappears in the middle of this episode. We learn that the mysterious woman that is riding in the carriage, is one member of the original seven, and that she’s working for the claw man. The mysterious woman soon departs Hayetah’s house, as leaves some medicine for Hayetah’s father. Joshua accidentally overhears Hayetah’s conversation with the mysterious woman, and Carmen 99 goes to question Hayetha’s father about the real nature of the beautiful pink flowers that Hayetah is growing.
We learn that the flowers that Hayetah is growing, gives off a poison that cripples the human body, due to the pollen that the flower generates. When Carmen 99 discovers that Hayetah has been growing these flower in their childhood secret garden, I thought that the scene that occurred here between the two, with both Carmen 99 and Hayetah being honest with the felling that the two friends have for one another, was well executed. I thought that the dialogue in this scene despite being simple, generates an emotional reaction from the viewer.
Overall I thought that this episode played out better than I expected, as it was a more seriously themed episode. I’m glad that this episode showed a drunken Wendy, upon smelling the poisons flowers that Hayetah is growing. I thought that seeing this unexpected drunken behaviour from Wendy in this episode, added something interesting and unexpected that made this episode more enjoyable. With Carmen 99 and the mysterious woman working for the claw man looking likely that they will collide with each other at Zonnet Junction in the near future, and with Van, Wendy and Joshua continuing their journey, it looks like things from here onwards, will be interesting and exciting.

Anime & Kurau:Phantom Memory 13 Dec 2006 07:21 pm
Kurau Phantom Memory - Episode Fourteen
After the events of the previous episode with Kurau and Christmas narrowly escaping from the GPO, and returning to Earth, this episode is slower in pace compared to the previous episode. The first half of this episode is mainly dedicated to showing what happened to Kurau after she left her father in the first half of episode one, while the second half of this episode is used to push forward the plot of the show. This episode starts of when Kurau left her father, to live with Kurau’s aunt (Kline) and uncle (Frank).
Even though the show could have easily glossed over this period in time involving a young Kurau being separated from her father, IMO it’s good to see how the events of a young Kurau being separated from her father have affected her. I thought that the bits involving Kurau recalling her time spent with her aunt and uncle was handled well, as the transitions between the past and present of Kurau remembering her memories with her aunt and uncle are smoothly integrated into this episode. If you are wondering why Kurau decided to be an agent as her profession, it is because Kurau’s uncle Frank was once an agent. Even though the time that Kurau spends with Uncle Frank and Auntie Kline weren’t all happy, due to Kurau missing her father, I thought that the scene of Kurau letting go of the letter that she wrote to her farther and wanting to be with him, was a nice yet sad scene.
The advancing of the plot in this episode starts to move forward when Inspector Wong informs Kurau’s father and Dag that Kurau and Christmas are confirmed as being dead from the space shuttle incident, in the previous episode. Upon Dr Amami and Dag hearing the news about Kurau’s and Christmas deaths their reaction upon hearing this news were different from each other. Dr Amami’s reaction to the news of Kurau and Christmas being killed is that he doesn’t believe it, and Dr.Amari even says that his daughter died a long time ago. As Inspector Wong hears this from Dr.Amami’s mouth, I liked the shocked look in Inspector Wong’s eyes, as he didn’t expect to hear these words from Dr.Amami. Dag’s reaction to the news of Kurau’s and Christmas’s death, is that Dag believes the news, as a feeling of sadness and lost ness consumes him, as he doesn’t know what to do, or where to go. Even though Dag cries upon hearing his son asking why he didn’t call him for so long, Dag cries due to the emotional build up of Kurau’s and Christmas death, and making his son worry about him, which he didn’t intend to do. I thought that the show can get away with having Dag cry and make it not feel out of place; due to Dag’s character being partly built upon is loving nature as a father, and the mature themes that the show tries to achieve. I would like to ponit out that this episode confirms that Dag and his wife are split from each other (which I have assumed when Dag was first introduced), as this is confirmed when Dag and Teddy meet with each other in this episode.
The rest of episode deals with Kurau’s uncle Frank, giving Kurau permission to do small jobs to keep her busy, with Uncle Frank being the middle man in arranging work for Kurau. The only advancement in the plot that occurs on a GPO front in this episode, when Inspector Wong disobeys orders, and visits a rynax infected Ichize Chiu (Dr Amami’s assistant.) Upon seeing the condition of Ichize Chiu, Inspector Wong is shocked at the site of Ichize’s body, and that there must be something occurring in the shadows of the GPO, which made Ichize Chiu be infected. This episode ends on an interesting note, with a mysterious rynax possessed boy pointing to Christmas, saying that she is his twin pair.
Overall I thought this was a good episode were we get to see the details of the time that Kurau was separated from her father, while advancing the plot of the show. Upon seeing Aunt Kline in the opening seconds of this episode, the resemblance between her and Kurau’s mother can be easily seen, due to the blonde hair. With this episode starting to set up the main plot of Kurau Phantom Memory, I looking forward to see how the GPO will react to Inspector Wong suspicious that the GPO are doing something unethical behind closed doors, while eagerly waiting to see what will happen between Christmas and the rynax possessed boy, that appeared at the end of this episode.
