Madman National Cosplay Championship Grand Final 2009
Today marked an important day in Melbourne’s and Australia’s anime community, with Madman hosting the Grand Final of their cosplay Championship. The Madman National Cosplay Championship Grand Final 2009 was hosted at the Sebel hotel near Albert Park, and the events started at 10am - 6pm. The Madman National Cosplay Championship Grand Final 2009 had a fair few actvicities going on thoughout the day like the Madman Theatre which enabled attendees to watch anime and go to various panels, also there was an Artists’s Alley to see what’s happening in the manga community and there was an Madman Anime Area to watch various anime that was playing throughout the day. There where two cosplay competitions occuring today, the regular cosplay competition that occurs for people attending the event, and the Madman National Cosplay Championship Grand Final.
Overall, despite the heat the day was funny and a Australia finally now has a national cosplay champion. Below is a BlackRockShooter cosplayer that attend the Madman National Cosplay Championship Grand Final 2009.

Been bitten by the anime figure bug.
When I got into anime many years again, I wasn’t really into anime figures, but this year I have got a few anime figures, and my collection of anime figures has grown. Below are anime figures I have acquired this year. Out of interest I have a few anime figures on order, so one can say the anime figure bug has bitten me and I haven’t looked back.

Manifest X Comission Piece
When I went to Manifest X this year, on the Sunday (day three) I got a comission of Re-l from Erogy Proxy with Robin Sena from Witch Hunter Robin. I really like the piece I got done, and thought that I’d share it. Picture of my comission that I got done at Manifest X can be seen below. Sorry for the bad image, it was done with my digital camera.

Gundam 30th History
As Gundam is one an anime’s popular franchise’s, and has a very large fan base, while being considered the Star Trek of anime, I thought that seeing all the various Gundam incarnations brought back some nice memories, especially the Adult Swim/Toonami memories. It was good seeing some characters one hates again, and some characters than I love. Below are screencaps of the four to five minute program that is made by Sunrise and Bandai.

Manifest X - Day 3
After the dust had settled and the clean up done after Manifest going 24 hours, one could ponder how day 2 could be topped. Day 3 of Manifest started of slowly as it was a Sunday, but as the day wore on, the day got more exciting. If you are video game fan, Manifest day 3 provided some excitment in the form of a Street Fighter 4 tournment. If one wasn’t a fan of video games, the day still offered plenty to do such as attending panels, watching various anime, to buying items from the traders hall, to many other events, but the goal of Mainfest is to have fun.
As the cosplay competition is the highlight or main event of the day, the cosplay competition started with it being delayed slightly, but after the problem was fixed, the event proceeded without any major dramas. The highlight of the cosplay competition IMO (in my opinioun) was the Bleach group and the Pokemon Skit involving taking the mickey out of various politicians.
Overall, Manifest X was an enjoyable event, and despite Manifest having a venue change from last year, it seemed to run pretty smoothly and without any major dramas. Below is a picture of a Lupin cosplayer from The Castle of Cagliostro.

Manifest X - Day 2
The word only that comes to my mind that describes this particular day is CRAZY! Even if one arrived a hour to an hour early to collect one’s badges, the line to cue up was already very, very, very big. Despite the large lines that one had to endure to get their on the day reg on pre-reg badge or simply cloak one’s cosplay prop, the atmosphere was really nice, as people in general were friendly, laughing and having a good time, which is the most important thing.
The weather on the Day 2 (Saturday) was better then day one’s (Friday) as it wasn’t raining and the sun was out, though it was mildy windy at times during the day. As the cosplay competition is general recognized as the main event of Manifest, this year’s competition (2009), started of differently from last year’s Manifest (Manifest 9), as it was groups first, then solo entries, while this Manifest (X) it was the reverse of this mostly, with some odd exceptions. As I had always been curious about the editor that runs ANN.au section of ANN, I manged to catch up with him, and have an interesting conversation about various topics.
The highlight of the cosplay comp would have to be the cosplay of the 00 Gundam, as if my memory serves me correct, the individuals making the cosplay spent 8-9 months on it, and was made out of some hardened cardboard material. It was even cool and amazing that the 00 Gundam solar furnaces were able to move. After the cosplay comp, I thought it was cool and nice of the 00 Gundam cosplayer to pose for more photos after the cosplay competition, and I even managed to get some more information on what’s hopefuly coming next year, a Exia Gundam cosplay with Trans-arm or not.
This year’s Manifest(X) was the first year that the convention was going to be 24 hours, as this year they had a Mani-Midnight event, which include various activities. Overall, Day 2 (Saturday) was really amazing, and I thought that the people that decided to cosplay on this day (Day 2), out numbered the people that attended not cosplaying. That’s IMO a really amazing sign that Manifest is getting biger and better, and people that are attending Mainfest are getting more into the spirit of the con. I thought that hosts of cosplay comp really had fantastic cosplays, and below is a picture of them. The cosplay if you don’t know is from Romeo X Juliet.
